Email Best Practice for Lawyers Top 10 Dos and Don’ts

Do• Make sure it’s the right

person.• Use a concise and specific

subject line.• Get straight to the point –

keep it fairly short.• Be courteous • Use a strong closing line.

Don’t• Use CAP LOCKS LIKE THIS.• Write anything

private/confidential over email.

• Write anything whilst angry/drunk - anything you wouldn’t want your boss to see.

• Forget to PROOFREAD – spelling, grammar, typos.

• Rely on spellcheck.

Email ScamsThey may be rare but they can catch you out…Email scam is an unsolicited email that claims the prospect of a bargain or something for nothing. Some scam messages ask for business, others invite victims to a website with a detailed pitch.

Examples include :-• Phishing • Advance-fee fraud• Online-dating scam• Traffic-ticket scam• Investment Schemes• Bank scams
