ENBE | Final Project | Part A – Report | The Better Livable Town Representation
1. Introduction
The idea of this project is to understand the component and elements of a town and what makes a better livable future town. We will have to pretend that we are the mayor of the “X” Town. The people in “X” town require a new town because of reasons that it is too crowded. We will need to propose a new layout for the new “X” Town very quickly.
We are required to do the followings to understand the meaning of a “town”, its development, history, components, elements and what makes a better livable town.
Investigation, collect data and understand the type of town that our group have selected. Look into documents, article, guideline and issues regarding planning a better future towns.

2. The Town
A town is a human settlement larger than a village but smaller than a city. The size definition for what constitutes a "town" varies considerably in different parts of the world. Townships range in size from 6 to 54 square
miles (15.6 km² to 140.4 km²), with 36 square miles (93 km²) being the norm.
The word town shares an origin with the German word Zaun, the Dutch word tuin, and the Old Norse tun. In English and Dutch, the meaning of the word took on the sense of the space which these fences enclosed. In England, a town was a small city that could not afford or was not allowed to build walls or other larger fortifications, and built a palisade or stockade instead.

ENBE | Final Project | Part A – Report | The Better Livable Town Representation
Town also provide a variety of services to their inhabitants, including sanitation, roads, utilities, transportation and food distribution.Town have a less denser population than the city, with a population that does not grow its own food.
What makes a good town? Use the landscape to your advantage, improve the town.Use only one architectural style per town, this is imperative to the final look of your project.
Every town or area should have at least one commanding (large and more importantly beautiful) building or group of buildings (that should be on the same street), they can be a mosque, town hall or whatever suits.

ENBE | Final Project | Part A – Report | The Better Livable Town Representation
The layout, shape/form of buildings, colour that define the town ,texture, and also space/perspective on how the town is built are also important.
Principles to built a town:
Pattern (style of builidings)
Rhythm/Movement (How easily the town can be navigated without a map) Proportion/Scale (Fitting the city to a proper size)
Balance (How effective the city building layout is)
Unity (How well the city seems to relate to itself)
Emphasis (Emphasize buildings to have them stand out)

GOZO
YAN WAI CHUN | 0319626| Pn Hasmanira| FNBE APR 2014 | Taylor’s University5
ENBE | Final Project | Part A – Report | The Better Livable Town Representation
Gozo has been inhabited since 5000 BC, when farmers from nearby Sicily crossed the sea to the island.Due to the discovery of similar pottery found in both places from the Għar Dalam phase, it has been suggested that the first colonists were specifically from the area of Agrigento; however, it is currently indeterminate exactly which part of Sicily the farmers came from. They are thought to have first lived in
caves on the outskirts of what is now known as Saint Lawrence.
Gozo (off the coast of Italy)
Gozo was an important place for cultural evolution, and during the neolithic period the Ġgantija temples were built; they are the world's oldest free-standing structures, as well as the world's oldest religious structures. The temple's name is Maltese for "belonging to the giants", because legend in Maltese and Gozitan folklore says the temples were built by giants.
Ggantija Temple
For such a town on a small island, has a population of around 31,000 people and it is rich in historic locations/ oldest free-standing structures and are also among the world's oldest religious structures.
Maybe the element that I can use is the architecture of buildings in GOZO.

Monte Carlo
Founded in 1866, Monte Carlo has a name of Italian origin meaning "Mount Charles", in honor of the then-reigning prince, Charles III of Monaco. The specific mountain is the escarpment at the foot of the Maritime Alps on which the town stands. The quarter of Monte Carlo was served by tramways from 1900 to 1953, linking all parts of Monaco (see transportation in Monaco). In 2003 a new cruise ship pier was completed in the harbour at Monte Carlo.
Monte Carlo in Monaco (Ward shown)
With more than 300 days a year of sunshine, residents in Monaco can take advantage of the Mediterranean, and all of its seaside activities. Monte Carlo is host to most of the Circuit de Monaco, on which the Formula One Monaco Grand Prix takes place. It also hosts world championship boxing bouts, the European Poker Tour Grand Final and the World Backgammon Championship as well as fashion shows and other events.
Circuit de MonacoMonte Carlo Casino
Monte Carlo is one of Europe's leading tourist resorts, although many of the key tourist destinations are located in other parts of Monaco.
Maybe I will add more features like Monte Carlo had in my new town.e.g. sports stadium, recreation places, race track etc.

5. Investigation & Data Collection:The future of towns and Better Towns
Treasure Island
Treasure Island, an upclose view of the proposed sustainable development plan and a not so shabby panoramic view of the whole San Francisco Bay Area. We found that the entire place is steeped in future plans and the island is
a keystone in what will become a center for green living in the Bay.
We also got an eye full of the temporary Bay Bridge span, which was impressively being connected to the existing bridge over the weekend. Meanwhile, curious ones like us piled into a shuttle and explored the flat shoals of Treasure Island. Together we squinted at the view, meandered through the parking lots, and gazed into what could be the developed future of the flat manmade island– an educational urban farm, a ferry building to mirror the one in San Francisco’s Embarcadero, and a wastewater treatment plant framed by wetlands.
Housing on the island will be a varied set of townhouses, stacked flats, mid-rises, neighborhood towers, and high rises, with units for different income levels all mixed together. On the city side of the island these blocks will be connected with pedestrian “mews,” landscaped common pathways. On the east side, a linear
park will run down the center of the neighborhood leading straight to the retail center.

6. The New “X” Town / The New NAME?
ZERUS
I’ve
done research about future town and buildings. I’ve seen many future or modern architecture style of buildings in Dubai. So I came up with the ideas of using the same architecture style and the materials for the buildings in this new town.Besides,I can take some informations from the research on Monte Carlo and Gozo, such as architecture buildings and features to include in my future town’s plan.

In this new town ,there are many ideas of adding sports and recreation facilities for public use , including adventure centres, community centres, indoor sports centres, swimming pools, resorts, sports grounds and stadiums.
Squares , gardens and farming areas will be installed in a less concentrated area. The purpose to doing so is to give the people in this new town an opportunity to walk around and not just focus on the concentrated area. Farming area is for the food production in this new town.

In this future town you will find a more sustainable public transport system. Low cost public transport will be provided in order to reduce the negative impact towards the environment of this new town.Bus stations and train stations will increase in the concentrated area and become less in residential area.
The population in ZERUS is 120,000 Malaysian.ZERUS is a town on an man made island .Housing in this new town will be a varied set of townhouses, stacked flats, mid-rises, neighborhood towers, and high rises, with units for different income levels all mixed together. Safety of the people in ZERUS will be put in the first place. Every one who enters or exit this new town will be
check with high tech security system to ensure there is no
terrorism happens.

Energy Management
Solar-wind Energy
combination of solar power and wind power to produce enormous energy called the solar wind power, which will satisfy all energy requirements of human kind. The satellite launched to tap solar wind power, instead of working like a wind mill, where a blade attached to the turbine is physically rotated to generate electricity, would use charged copper wire for capturing electrons zooming away from the sun at several hundred kilometers per second.
Flying Wind Farms
kite-like airborne turbines spinning at high altitudes sending power down via nano-tube cable tethers to generate power.
At higher altitudes, wind has more velocity and is more consistently predictable. As power generated goes up because of higher wind resistance proportional to the cube of relative velocity, more power can be generated.
Wind Energy

ENBE | Final Project | Part A – Report | The Better Livable Town Representation
Wind turbines will be installed near the sea shore as the wind is greater. The kinetic energy created by the turbines will convert into electrical energy, then the electricity will be distributed to all the zones through transformers.

7. Conclusion
Before we starts to plan the new town, we must investigate and examine old cities and towns, present towns and future towns in order to help us and gives us ideas about our development of future town. Collecting data that will help us to understand more about the components and elements of a town, such as what makes a good town etc.
The evolution of technology keeps on going, throughout the research, there is a huge different between ancient architecture buildings and future architecture buildings. At this early stage, we must learn how to catch up the evolution and try to practice it in our projects.
The population in this world keeps on increasing,so we must appreciate every piece of land on this Earth and most important appreciate what nature has given us.
