EncounterNotificationService(ENS)Overview
WhatisENS?TheEncounterNotificationService(ENS)providedbyHealthShareExchangealertssubscribingproviderparticipantsabouttheirpatients’admissionsanddischargesfromtheemergencydepartments,hospitals,andpost-acutecarefacilitiesthatareHSXmemberorganizations.Notificationsaredeliveredasasummarylistorinreal-time,perpatientmessages.
Subscribingparticipantscanchoose:• whattheywanttobenotifiedabout(e.g.,admissionsonly,dischargesonly);• howoftentheyreceivethenotifications(e.g.,realtime,daily,twiceaday);• andhowtoreceivenotification(e.g.,directsecuremessage,SFTP).

WhyshouldIsubscribetoENS?Providersandhealthplansareoftennotcontacted,ornotcontactedinatimelymanner,whentheirpatientsareadmittedordischargedfromafacility.Medicalserviceareasthathaveanencounternotificationsysteminplacehaveexperiencedimprovementsincarecoordinationacrosstheircommunities.

HowoftendoIneedtosubmitmypatientorenrolleeroster/panel?Ataminimum,patientorenrolleerosters/panelsneedtobesubmittedonceamonthbysubscribingproviderparticipants.Subscribinghealthplansarerequiredtosendrosters/panelsmorefrequently.
HowdoesHSXmatchtheinformationthatitreceivesfromitsmemberhospitalsandotherfacilitieswiththepatientsintheproviderpanels?HSXcombinespatientdemographicinformationreceivedfromitsdataprovidersintoaMasterPatientIndex(MPI)andusesatested,weightedalgorithmtomatchpatients.HSXmonitorstheMPIandconductsqualityassurancetoverifytheaccuracyofthepatientdataitmaintains.AsmoreinformationisprovidedtoHSXfrommoredatasources,HSXcontinuouslyimprovesitsmatchingalgorithm.
