Fashion Stages arises from the Fashion Design Program in ORT Uruguay University, to show the academic productions of our students in each formative stage through four years of fashion, since program creation in 2004.
Our aim is to insert the student into the dynamics of research, design and management, displa-ying the results of different levels of training.
Our main purpose is to make our way of working and teaching better known, in which material and textile research, mold experimentation, raw materials selection, confection and final quality are handled with innovative criteria; where the soon-to-be designer´s own profile mixes with the requirements of innovative and commercial products.
Fashion development in Uruguay has been in constant growth since the appearance of the first school in the 80´s until –in the early years of the new century- the birth of strong teaching propo-sitions in the undergraduate level.
The present connection between the designer and the company is a growing and sustained pro-cess. It is noticeable in our country the growth of national commercial brands that are becoming international because of these new professionals that contribute –from the design area- to the development of the industry.
We hereby give our recognition to each and every one of the actors that take part in this propo-sal, projecting their creativity with great effort and enthusiasm in search of their identity.

Insights into XXI Century´s Fashion...
At the end of the first decade of the third millennium, Fashion gets on the stage of creation and socio-cultural manifestations.
Protagonist and surprising, as always in its history, it displays multiple sides, a reflection of a variety of styles and talents.
The goddess of appearances –as defined by Mallarmé- is, once more, the mirror of the ability to imagine, to choose and to project.
It travels fast in the logic of cycles, less imperative than in the past century, and partly conducted by the hand of its costumer, who lives in constant change and travels –in real time- through spaces, cultures and new aesthetics.
Costumers and -in part- actors, who in their daily life search for their own style, renew their identity and express the desire to experiment, change, re-project.
Fashion, and garment as one of its expressions, is each day closer to new life choices and to our deepest values.
Understanding the fashion product enables us to analyze the formal narration built by morphologic and aesthetic categories, that are combi-ned and contextualised in a freedom of proposals.
But, even more mysterious is the fact that this interpretation gives us the possibility to get closer and inside of a world of emotions and inter-pretations about our time and daily life.
A mysterious world that displays itself before the attentive observer, who wishes to go beyond appearances.
In this context, it is interesting to take a look at the relationship between the body and the objects. The body that, decorated, wrapped in volu-mes, partially discovered, shows identities in movement and multiple styles for different ages and choices.
Contextualised once more, objects play with the individual, get a new position and, thus, another meaning.
Objects of the past, with its contents, change garment into a story bet-ween present and past, in a memorable and original experience.
It is also amazing the simplification of design and image, expressed by the combination of lines and axes.
Combinations of multicultural aesthetics and the recovery of handcraft techniques are shown, enriching the creation and allowing products and, mainly, people, to insert themselves into a local world versus a glo-bal one. Differences that integrate and express diversities, in a creative and emotional richness.
Experimental textures grow, after investigation and experimentation, allowing the body to live in its second skin, protecting, decorating, ex-pressing itself.
The meticulous search for recycled or alternative materials is observed, for a refined and surprising aesthetic. Reflection of a multi-sensory expression and communication in which, in the last few months, has prevailed the importance of touch and sight.
More communication codes could appear in the interpretation of contemporary garment and Fashion, but we believe that the important thing is to open the curtain to the work of the ORT designers and stu-dents.
In the suspense of the wait, by the sound of music, when they get to the catwalk, creation and design go hand by hand with the representation-sometimes unconscious- of life, highlighting:- Interesting experimental textures, that allow sight to get inside, to feel as part of the body movement and even manage to communicate its whispers;- Volumes based on body architecture, suggesting and modifying sil-houettes, using axes and new creative lines;- Games and a playful sense that respond to the evident and constant search for happiness.
This recent Fashion manifestations in a young country constitute a challenge and are fields that arise enthusiasm to go on exploring at the beggining of the XXI Century...
