WHY WOULD THIS HAPPEN ?
The hierarchy is ragged
meaning that not all membershave the same number ofparents.
HCS Americas Enterprise is atthe input/zero level. However,HCS Americas Legal has
additional children.
When trying to select the datayou want, you need to be awareof what the level or generation isthat you are looking at.

Query Designer - Worksheets
After clicking on Query Designer worksheets some ad hoc operations are disabled
until the query is launched and the report is populated.
Operations enabled ONLYAFTER running queries:
Formulas
Asymmetric reportsComments
Blank Rows and Columns
Changes to Alias tables
Ad Hoc actions such as
Zoom-In Zoom-Out Keep-Only Remove-Only Double-Click
Reminder: If any of the changes listed to
the left are made after running
the query, they will be lost if
Query Designer is opened and
the query is executed again.
Query Designer benefits over ad-hoc reporting
Dynamic selections can be retained. For
example, if AC_J73320000_Expense is chosen
with its 16 G level children, rerunning the query
would pick up if a 17thG level was added. Dimensions are placed in the way that
SmartView needs them. Having a dimension
misplaced could bring back data you were not
expecting.

Query Designer - Develop Reports
You can create queries from a blank sheet
You can take an existing report and extract a basic query from the report
Options such as suppress missing rows, repeat member names, andindentation are defined in Ad Hoc queries and can be set while workingin the query sheet but are not applied until after you run the query
Query Designer worksheets are designated by Sheet nameQuery; for
example Sheet1Query
After running a query, a report sheet is created with the name SheetnameReport; for example Sheet1Report and the Sheet name Query becomes hidden
Queries can be saved as .xls files! You can use queries as templates and share them with other users, who may want to run the same query and modify the selections fortheir own needs

Query DesignerCreating QueriesFiltering Members in Queries:
You can filter members during member selection by:
Children: Selects only children of a specific member Descendants: Selects all descendants of a specific member
Levels: Selects members by level number
Generation: Selects members by generation number
Using the member selection dialog box, specifying member filters inserts the code
that SmartView needs (syntax) into the report grid.

Query DesignerFilter SyntaxWhen using Query Designer to make dimension selections, instead of
displaying what will be shown on the report, it shows the code used to
bring back the results. Similar to most languages, syntax refers to therules for the proper creation of a sentence, in this case a line ofprogramming code.
For Example: To filter for Descendants of Net Income, the syntax is
DESCENDANTS([AC_N95000000 Net Income])
You can modify the syntax statement by editing the cell. Instead ofmaking multiple selections you can copy and paste the statement andreplace the member, the account in this case
For Example: To add the Descendants of Balance Sheet the report wouldlook like this:
DESCENDANTS([AC_N95000000 Net Income])
DESCENDANTS([AC_P00000000_Balance Sheet])

Dynamic Data Points
To present data, Word or PowerPoint is often preferable to Excel.
Smart View enables you to copy data points from Excel and paste theminto Word or PowerPoint, creating linked views (dynamic data) betweenapplications.
You can copy and paste data points from:
Excel to Word and PowerPointWord to Word and PowerPoint
PowerPoint to Word and PowerPoint
The data points retain their original Excel-based query information, thus
enabling users to perform data analysis.

Dynamic Data Points contd.
Remember:
Dynamic data points are maintained in the report. However, if you copy andpaste data points within Excel, the data points are NOT linked to the Excel grid.
When copying and pasting from Word to PowerPoint, or vice versa, data isdisplayed in a straight line. The tabular format is preserved only when copyingdata from Excel into Word or PowerPoint.
Excel formatting is preserved when data is pasted into Word and PowerPoint.Apply the formatting in Excel before copying and pasting data.
You can use Word or PowerPoint tools to change number formatting.
