SPECIAL ENVELOPES FOR THE MONTH OF MAY/JUNE
May 26 Faith Formation
June 2 International Needs Collection
June 30 Peter’s Pence
CEMETERY OF THE INNOCENTS
The ECC Students for Life Club and Elk County Right to
Life group have constructed a display in the yard at
St. Leo Church in Ridgway to offer a visual reminder of
the scourge of abortion in our country. There are 300
crosses. Each cross represents 10 babies.
So over 3000 babies are lost to abortion each DAY in
the U.S! Many men and women who had abortions say
they felt they had no other option or they were alone.
And many post-abortive parents give testimonies to the
emotional scars they endure that no one told them could
happen. But HELP IS AVAILABLE. See our brochures
in the churches and at the display site to find out how to
find help. In this month of May– we pray to Mary to help
the unborn - and their parents.
Materials donated by Sherwin Williams.
INTERNATIONAL NEEDS COLLECTION~ June 2
The annual collection for International Needs will be
taken up next weekend. This provides us with the
opportunity to broaden our charitable horizons by
reaching out to our suffering brothers and sisters
throughout the world. The collection offers a concrete
way for us to help those in need in lands and cultures far
from our town, from Africa to the Middle East To Eastern
Europe. The collection gives aid to: (1) those forced to
leave their homes because of war or famine (2) children
who go to bed hungry and who cannot attend school (3)
the victims of war and natural disasters (4) those who
are persecuted for their faith and (5) as well as those
who wish to study for the priesthood, but do not have the
means to do so. Please give as generously as you can
to the International Needs Collection and just as
importantly, please include those in need in your
prayers. God bless you for your support!

We have all heard the proverb, still waters run
deep. It's true for lakes and oceans, but it's also true for
the spiritual life. The deeper our friendship with Christ,
the more stable our lives become. Even when storms
come and make waves on the surface of the ocean, the
depths remain calm. Christ wants us to learn to live a
deep spiritual life, so that we can experience profound
interior peace.
There is a similar analogy with trees. Pine trees
are notoriously unstable. This is because their roots
spread out horizontally, just barely under the surface of
the ground. This type of root system helps pine trees
survive in their native higher elevations, where there is
only a thin layer of soil over the rocky ground. But it
makes the trees vulnerable. When high winds blow or
storms break, they are easily uprooted.
Oak trees, on the other hand, are famous for
their sturdiness. They stand tall and strong while
storms and wind wreak havoc with the other trees
around them. White Oak trees consistently resist even
tornados. Why? Their root system is different. They
put down a deep tap root - a single, thick root that goes
straight down into the soil and serves as an anchor. If
you plant a White Oak tree acorn, it will grow its tap root
down into the soil for almost an entire year before you
see even a tiny sprout on the surface. When our lives
are deeply grounded in the soil of Christ's love, mercy,
and mission, they become strong and fruitful.
The tap root of friendship with Christ brings
interior peace even in the midst of life's biggest storms.
