What effects do carp have on water in water tanks?
By a fabulous team of scientists from Quirindi Public
How we did our research
Over the past few months we have been gathering information about carp, silver perch and a controlled tank of water. To measure the water quality we regularly gathered information from the three different tanks. Each tank had 1 litre and 700ml of water in it. Over the time of testing two fish died ,1 carp and 1 silver perch .Our groups made sure that each tank had the exact same type of water, some rain water , town water and some out of the tank the fish came out of. We have measured the Ph, Turbidity and micro Siemens, this information we charted then graphed.
What is PH?• PH ranges from 0 to 14.• Pure natural water has a pH of 7.0• Water can become either acid or alkaline.• A pH over 7.0 is alkaline.• Ph under 7.0 is acid.• Fish will die if the pH is under 4.8 • the pH is 5.5 it has iron in it. • In the day pH can be 9.5 if it is in the night it will be 7.3. • In deep water Ph is lower the shallow water.• Most fish can tolerate pH of 5.0 to 9.0.

What is Turbidity?• www.En.wikipedia.org/wiki/turbidity• • Turbidity is the haziness of water caused by particles that are invisible to the naked eye.
• • www.h2ou.com/h2wtrqual.htmIf • If suspended particles block out light, photosynthesis-and the production of oxygen for fish and
aquatic life.• • Ga.water.usgs.gov/edu/dictionary.html • • Turbidity waters become warmer as suspended particles absorb heat from sunlight , causing oxygen
levels to fall. Warm water holds less oxygen than cooler water)• Turbidity-the amount of solid particles that are suspended in water and that cause light rays shinning
through the water to scatter . Turbidity makes the water cloudy or even opaque in extreme cases.• •

What are Micro SiemensMicro seimens are also referred to as salinity or conductivity
Salinity is the salt concentration in water.
Conductivity is the degree to which a material conducts electric or heat.
About micro Siemens
The fish added to the micro siemens through urination and pooing.
To measure the micro seimens we used an EC meter also known as the electrical conductivity meter
