Europeana Migration
Special Interest Group
Purpose
This special interest group will allow a selected
group of representatives of GLAMS with
Migration expertise to come together (1 or 2
meetings) to set up events for the Europeana
Migration campaign and the aggregation of
existing datasets to Europeana.
The results should be a calendar of max 12
public events for 2018 (based on the Europeana
collection day model) as well as a number of
datasets.
Meetings should ideally take place in December
(at EF offices in The Hague) and March
(Brussels; tbc).

Relation to the Europeana Business plan
This Europeana Migration project will run as a
coordinated series of contributing activities.
It will focus on and illustrate the value and
enrichment of culture shared through migration,
looking at both what immigrants bring with them
to new countries and how it contributes to that
culture.
The scope of the theme will be broad in nature:
geographically it will cover migration to, from and
within Europe; historically it will relate to key
documented periods of large immigration
movements in late modern European history,
stopping at post-colonial migration in the 1960s.

“The proposal is a good project that interacts well with the overall Europeana goals.
The task force will use the existing Europeana infrastructure, concepts and tools in a good way.
Specially the link to the 2018 European Year of Cultural Heritage is valuable”.

"The proposed TF for the Europeana Migration Special Interest Group is closely connecting to the
Europeana Migration thematic collection and can enrich the European Year of Cultural Heritage
2018, therefore I propose to accept it”.

"I was initially shocked about the fact that the Sig was going to organize 12 meetings for 3.000,=
Euro. That would be insane.
But a proposal to form a Sig that will form a Taskforce to come up with an event calendar and
datasets (vaguely formulated) is OK”.

“The proposal suggests (max) 12 public events in 2018; is this a bit too many? And also add a goal
about how many new datasets / "how much new data" that shall be the outcome of the task force”.

“The timing is not quite clear, since the 2nd meeting is

January could be more logical”.

The proposal is a bit vague in its formulation: to my
understanding the proposal is for a SIG that will form a
Taskforce for the Migration Campaign. The Taskforce
will focus on an event calendar of 12 events.
