Hamburg Smart Sea Port Testbed
Use Case: Better Traffic Flow
▪ Objective and motivation:
– Optimize traffic flow through central traffic control
– Monitor status of traffic lights, allow live control and
settings
– Allow fast & simple deployment, with integration of
temporary traffic lights (construction sites)
– Overcome analogue legacy technology and inflexible
copper infrastructure
▪ Connect traffic lights reliably, secure, with
guaranteed performance and low CAPEX
▪ Show reliability and the resilience of the network

Hamburg Smart Sea Port Testbed
▪ Objective and motivation:
– Live mobile measurements of air quality, pollution,
or detection of hazardous substances
– Allow fast & simple deployment of many sensors at any
location, visualisation of data, relationships, and events
– Get fast, stable and secure transmission of sensor
measurement to the port’s IoT-Cloud
– Fixed measurement stations are expensive and not adaptive,
offline measurements may lead to detection delays
▪ Environmental sensors installed on HPA ships provide
real time data on the current environmental status
▪ Exemplary use case of massive IoT sensor network
Use Case: Improved Pollution Control

Use Case: Improved Port Operations
Hamburg Smart Sea Port Testbed
▪ Objectives and motivation:
– Operations support at Watergates or construction sites needs live expert assistance & document access
– Increase efficiency of engineers by connected VR/AR-headsets in a performant and secure manner
– Improve operations and efficiency
– Currently no AR / video available, high cost for experts on site, some port areas without coverage
▪ Fast & flexible implementation of AR/VR and video streaming system to support the engineering teams remotely
▪ Latency-critical application requires the customization of specific slice running in parallel with the others
