Faculty of Entrepreneurship
History
As a new initiative in higher education, the graduate Faculty of Entrepreneurship was founded for the
first time in Iran and in the region in 2007 by the University of Tehran. This Faculty, located in the
North Amirabad Campus and staffed with the most recognized entrepreneurship experts from various
sectors, offers one of the most comprehensive entrepreneurship curricula at the Master and Doctoral
levels.
Objectives
1. Offering academic programs in Entrepreneurship management at MA and PhD levels.
2. Promoting entrepreneurial skills and knowledge in the society.
3. Promoting general and specialized entrepreneurship in the form of open education and
outreach programs.
4. Providing professional advice and counseling.

Master’s Degree ProgramThe Master’s degree program in Entrepreneurship Management provides the students with
knowledge in the following nine fields:
1. New Business Creation/ Venture;
2. Corporate Entrepreneurship;
3. Public Sector Entrepreneurship;
4. Technology-based Entrepreneurship;
5. Entrepreneurship Education and Training;
6. Development Entrepreneurship;
7. Agricultural Extension and Services;
8. Information Technology;
9. MBA (Master of Business Administration).
Requirements
Candidates should hold an accredited Bachelor’s degree. Prerequisite courses are Statistics in
Management (two credits) and Fundamentals of Computer (two credits).
Duration of Program
The duration of all graduate programs in Entrepreneurship Management is three years or six
semesters (4 semesters for courses and two semesters for thesis project). Each semester lasts for
about 17 weeks. The Faculty of Entrepreneurship is also offering E-learning education for more
than 700 students.

Students will have the opportunity to study courses on information technology, organizational
entrepreneurship, innovation and organizational technology management, organizational
entrepreneurship management, and international entrepreneurship management and gain the
necessary skills and hands-on experience through the internship offered by the faculty. Students
have the opportunity to pass specialized courses on business start-ups opportunity recognition,
new product development and business management through knowledge acquisition for businessstartups as well as taking part in internships at various institutions. Graduates will gain the ability
and knowledge to conduct business diagnostic or appraisal studies and present improvement
plans to managers and owners of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).
Students can take advantage of the opportunity to take courses on academic entrepreneurship,
social entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial planning for national, regional and local development
and entrepreneurship development policy-making. Accordingly, the alumni in this field will have
good opportunities to enter into various arenas of policy-making/ decision making in the public
sector and NGOs which will ultimately lead to national development, enrichment of
entrepreneurial activities and leadership, and entrepreneurship in the public sector and
governmental agencies.
Doctoral Degree (PhD) Program
Doubtless, education and training of the entrepreneurial generalists and specialists accompanied
by the enrichment of entrepreneurial perception, insight, knowledge and skills will greatly
contribute to the acceleration of the sustainable development trend in a country. More
specifically, in view of the globalization of economy and gradual elimination of trade borders
and barriers, the future of a country will be heavily dependent on the competitive advantages in
the global market. Thus the training of specialist manpower is an indispensable part of the factors
which will help national and international firms and corporations to act sustainably in the world
market.
Duration
The course has been designed for four years being equivalent to 8 academic semesters; 4
semesters for instruction and 2 semesters for thesis project. The course is administered in the
form of credit hours each semester (unit-based system).
Admission requirement
Applicants are required to have credentials proving the completion of a Master’s degree
program, with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 14 out of 20 or its equivalent for
admission in doctoral programs.

Scientific Journals
The periodicals include two journals as follows:
1- Journal of Entrepreneurship Development which is published in Persian as a quarterly
and so far 14 volumes of it has come out.
2- Journal of Global Entrepreneurship Research which is biannually published in
cooperation with the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM).
Both journals are supported by a large number of Iranian and foreign contributors whereby
concentration is mainly on the promotion and development of entrepreneurial perception and
thinking in theory and practice.
Library
The Faculty has a specialized library with about 11,000 volumes of Persian and English books in the areas
of entrepreneurship, SMEs management, accounting, feasibility studies, and the like.
International Cooperation
The Faculty of Entrepreneurship has promoted the policy of academic interactions and cooperation in
the following areas:
1. the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) has its Iran Office at this Faculty which regularly
organizes GEM-based educational workshops here and has taken further steps to establish the
GEM Regional Cooperation Offices as well;
2. the UNESCOChair in Entrepreneurship which was established and officially opened at the
Faculty of Entrepreneurship, University of Tehran on June 07, 2011. Currently, Dr. S. Mohammad
Moghimi is as acting as the UNESCOChair holder;
3. a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the Department of Entrepreneurship
and Relationship Management of the University of Southern Denmark and the Faculty of
Entrepreneurship of the University of Tehran.
Future Programs
The Faculty intends to offer Master’s and Doctoral programs in Entrepreneurship for
international students.
