Field visit Ist phase:
After visiting Ajanta caves I have identified some problems.
Location: Ajanta Green bus station
Design Problem: waisting time in bus queue.
Description: To navigate ajanta caves it takes more than 5 hours, sadly long queues of
tourist waiting outside for hour is clealy visible at near green bus terminal at t-point.
And in 2nd photo the othority give tickets at near bus door.
Location: Near cave no. 03
Design Problem: Senior citizen and Other tourist not complete entire tour because of
physical aspect of moving around.
Description: The critical issue at Ajanta is the physical aspect of moving around. What
need to be identified is the specific points from where tourist opt to back out. Physically
negotiating the place could be difficult for majority so how do you place information at
such places.

Location: Cave no. 06
Design Problem: Lack of visual information
Description: Lack of proper signage’s and visual information people tend to remove
shoes to their own will. Yet there were no shoe rake near each cave entrance.
Location: Cave no. 05 & Cave no. 13
Design Problem: Corruption & lack of proper information
Description: Corruption has seeked deeply into the management at the caves. It seems
that guards, security at the entrance of the caves have strong hold over the caves. The
lights have been purposely switched off so that nothing is visible and in order to see the
sculptures, painting all you have to do is bribe them. So they would take you inside the
place and tourist even click pictures with flash lights. This infect doesn’t enhance the
tourist experience but bad reputation.

Location: Cave no. 18
Design Problem: Caves are closed and under maintenance
Description: The tourist not able to know more as few of the caves are closed and under
maintenance , with use of technology what could be done so that they don’t go without
knowing what the cave has to showcase. The topography of the place tests the physical
capacity of an individual.
Location: Cave no. 01
Design Problem: not following rules as per notice board.
Description: It seems the government put the board for showcase, nobody follow the
rules as per notice board. Not only tourist but also guards and guides break the rules.

Location: Shopping plaza near T-point
Design Problem: Tiny clock room and publication room
Description: The clock room and publication room is so tiny that it couldn’t absorbed
more than 50 tourists luggage. And also clock room is far away from the caves and it is
really unsafe to put your luggages.
Location: Moving towards the caves
Design Problem: Tourist not able to find shortest route for the caves.
Description: Tourists always get confused the different routes and due to lack of path
information and they are not able to find out other caves like whose are in below the
ground and top level caves.

Location: Cave no.01 & cave no.08
Design Problem: Tourist not able to find facilities nearby caves.
Description: with lack of proper information tourist don’t even know which facilities are
available and where it will get. Like water, shoe rake and all. The shoe rake is only one
near cave no.01 and it is very confusing to the tourist that tourist remove only once at
starting cave. And water cooler is below the ground so that mostly tourist not able to
find it.
Location: Cave no.01
Design Problem: Local guides passing incomplete information to the tourist.
Description: Since guides always looking for big fish they quickly show the caves to
tourist and move to another tourist group. And passing incomplete information and it is
hard to identify that what guide is saying right and wrong because of tourist also don’t
even know.
