Technology Before WWI▪ Before WWI, movements towards deadlier
and deadlier weapons was already in motion.
▪ Guns could now hold several bullets without having to reload after each shot.
▪ Cannons became more accurate and could shoot longer distances.
▪ The first machine gun (Gatling Gun) made its limited debut during the Civil War.
▪ Hand grenades were primitive.
▪ Ships powered by steam began arming themselves with iron.
What changed?
▪ industrialization affected every aspect of how humans went about killing one another.
▪ For the first time, mass production methods were applied to weapons and to the technology of warfare in general.
▪ Advances in metallurgy and in chemical industries had created new firepower that made defense almost invincible and attack almost impossible.
▪ This is why trench warfare exists during WWI.

▪ As each group presents on that weapon, you will be responsible for filling in the rest of your chart.
