UNDER-REPRESENTATION OF CAPTIVE SHOPSManagers of surface finishing shops are no longerstrongly represented in the trade associations because thecontrolling manufacturing corporations, whether automotive, motorcycle, appliance, aerospace, or military, have drastically reduced their financia l support of theiremployees' participation and education during this recession. This is unfortunate because they represent a largesegment ofthe industry. This prevents managers or foremen from elevating themselves from the levelofwardensto superior managers, both technically and in businessknowledge.
