Fisher ET, EAT, and ETRSliding-Stem Control ValvesFisher ET, EAT, and ETR general-purpose controlvalves (figures 1, 2, 3, and 4) are used for throttlingor on-off control of a wide variety of liquids andgases. All three valve designs have single ports, balanced valve plugs, and cage guiding.Metal-to-PTFE seating for stringent shutoffrequirements is standard in all valves except thosewith Cavitrol III cages. Metal-to-metal seating forhigher temperatures is standard for valves withCavitrol III cages and optional for all other valves.
The temperature limits of ET valves can be extendedabove 232C (450F) by using PEEK(PolyEtherEtherKetone) anti-extrusion rings incombination with a spring-loaded PTFE seal. ThePEEK anti-extrusion rings expand to close off theclearance gap between the plug and the cage wherethe PTFE seal may extrude at high temperaturesand pressures. The temperature limits are extendedto 316C (600F) for non-oxidizing service and to260C (500F) for oxidizing service.
The ET product line is available for a wide range ofapplications, including sulfide and chloridestress-cracking environments common to the oil andgas production industries. To discuss availableconstructions, contact your Emerson ProcessManagement sales office and include the applicablecodes and standards required for theseenvironments.
The easy-e Valve Family
ET, EAT, and ETR control valves are part of theversatile easy-e family of Fisher industrial controlvalves. easy-e valves share the followingcharacteristics:
 Multiple trim material choices
Interchangeable, restricted-capacity trims andfull-sized trims to match variable process flowdemands
Different cage/plug styles that provide particularflow characteristics for highly-specializedapplications. The standard cage comes in three

different flow characteristics: quick-opening, linear, or equal percentage.
Whisper Trim I, Whisper Trim III (figure 7),and WhisperFlo cages (figures 5 and 6) attenuateaerodynamic noise in gaseous service.
To help eliminate cavitation damage in aproperly-sized valve, a standard-travel, Cavitrol III,one-stage cage (figure 9) and a long-travel, CavitrolIII, two-stage cage are available in the NPS 1through NPS 8 ET control valve.

Features Compliance with the Clean Air Act—
ENVIRO-SEAL packing systems (figures 10 and 11)that provide an improved stem seal to help preventthe loss of process fluid are available. Thesepacking systems feature PTFE or Graphite ULFpacking with live-loading for reduced packingmaintenance.
PTFE Seating for Long-Lasting ShutoffCapability—Controlled compression of standardseat construction protects PTFE disk between metaldisk seat and disk retainer (figure 2). Only the edgeof the PTFE disk is contacted by the flowstreamduring normal operation. Excellent shutoff ismaintained by a backup ring or spring-loading thatforces the valve plug seal ring against the cage(figure 2).
Valve Plug Stability— Rugged cage guidingprovides high valve plug stability, which reducesvibration and mechanical noise.
Cost-Effective Operation and MaintenanceEconomy—Increased wear resistance of hardenedstainless steel trim means longer-lasting service. When inspection or maintenance is necessary, thebody can stay in the pipeline during removal of trimparts. Balanced valve plug construction permits useof smaller, lower-cost Fisher actuators. The ETRvalve also permits easy body interior access withouthaving to remove the bonnet or actuator (figure 4).And, trim inventory costs are cut becausedimensional standardization permits use of moststandard easy-e trim parts.
Compliance with European Standards—Valves are available with dimensions specified byEN/DIN standards. See figure 16.
Sour Service Capability— Unless otherwisenoted, references are to NACE MR0175-2002.Optional materials are available to meet NACEMR0103 and NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156. Materialrequirements under these standards vary by editionand year of issue; the specific standard must bespecified.

ENVIRO-SEAL, HIGH-SEAL PackingSystemsENVIRO-SEAL and HIGH-SEAL packing systemsoffer exceptional sealing capabilities. These systemseasily install in existing valves or can be purchasedwith new valves. These systems help seal theprocess to conserve valuable process fluid. Thelong-life and reliability of these systems also reducemaintenance costs and downtime.
For applications requiring compliance withenvironmental protection regulations, the uniqueENVIRO-SEAL packing system (figure 11) and aunique ENVIRO-SEAL bellows seal system (figure 10) are offered. The emission control packingsystem keeps emission concentrations below theEPA 100 ppm requirement.
For an excellent stem seal in applications that arenot environmentally-sensitive, the HIGH-SEAL
Graphite ULF packing system (figure 11) is offered. The HIGH-SEAL packingsystem provides improved sealing atpressure/temperature ratings beyond ENVIRO-SEALlimits.
ENVIRO-SEAL packing systems, available withPTFE, Graphite ULF, or duplex packing, and theHIGH-SEAL Graphite ULF packing system featurelive-loading and unique packing-ring arrangementsfor long-term, consistent sealing performance.

1. These in-body process temperatures assume an outside, ambient temperature of 21C (70F) and no insulation on the bonnet. When using any packing at low process temperatures,a cast extension bonnet may have to be used to prevent packing damage which could result from the formation of valve stem frost. Material selection for trim and other components willalso be limiting factors.2. Temperatures above 232C (450F) require PEEK anti-extrusion rings and spring-loaded seal ring.
