Food Items Registration and Label Assessment in the FIRS

Step 1: Go Dubai Municipality Website
• Log in with your user and password in Dubai Municipality website: www.dm.gov.ae
Step 2: Click on Food Import Re-export Services
Step 3: Search for your food item before applying for registration
Step 4: Feed in the barcode and click on search
Step 5: The result of the search shows that the item is registered already, so if you applied for the same barcode it will be rejected
Condition ❶: If you tried to apply for an already registered item this will be the result
• Your request will be received in the FIRS and will be rejected directly:
Step 6: If the item was not registered you can apply for food item registration and food label assessment
Continue on Step 6:
Step 7: Apply for new request
Step 8: Select the type of request you want to apply for• Food Item Registration and Label Assessment: includes both the label assessment
and the item registration and fall under each conditions
• Food Label Assessment: includes only checking the compliance of the label with the standards
• Food Item Registration: includes only food item registration in the FIRS system without paying attention to the label and the applied standards
Condition ❷:
• If you applied for Food Item Registration and Label Assessment, you should not apply for Food Item Registration or Food Label Assessment independently
Step 9: Fill in all the required fields
Continue on Step 9: Each food label shall contain the following:• Brand Name is a must especially for UAE products
• Product name (a summarized description of the food product).
• The food ingredients (arranged in a descending order according to the weight or volume).
• Production & expiration dates of all products (except those which are exempted from displaying the validity or expiration dates).
• Name of the food manufacturer, packer, distributor or importer.
• Net weight or volume.
• Country of Origin (if its omission leads to deceiving or misleading the consumer).
• Product’s barcode.
• Lot number
• Language of the label shall be in Arabic. Approved stickers could be used to translate the food labels in Arabic Language.
• Storage conditions (if the validity of the product depends on such conditions).
• Mentioning the ingredients which may cause hypersensitivity
• Instructions for using the product (if needed)
• Displaying the nutritional information is optional (catering only)

Step 10: Attach a clear image of the label and a clear image of the item itself
Step 11: Once you are done, continue and submit your request
• After you submit your request you will get a number similar to the following for different services as explain earlier:– FRLA-06052014-0009: Food Item Registration and Label Assessment
– FITR-13052014-0011: Food Item Registration
– FLAR-08052014-0048: Food Label Assessment
Condition ❸: Rejection Reasons
• Banned Ingredients such as poppy seeds and alcohol• Difficult to read the label information• Duplicated barcodes in the FIRS• Food supplements are controlled by consumer section• Ingredients are not declared• Ingredients in foreign language neither Arabic nor
English• Items should be approved by ministry of health• Non conformity with shape law has religious signs or
inappropriate pictures• Non food items such as cigarettes

• The service is an online service and the consignee is not expected to follow up manually
• The requests should be checked within 5 working days from the submission date
• All the requests that are not following the provided instructions will be rejected
