thefutureofthenewProgrammeandits
planning,thesocialawareness-raising
campaign,theworkinvolvedindrawing
upournextInstitutionalStrategicPlan,
thedimensionoftheprojectsapproved
andbeingimplemented,theactivities
undertakenintheareasofhousing,health-
careandequaltreatmentandthenewwork
opportunitiesatinternationallevelarejust
someofthemilestonescharacterisingthis
intenseyeardescribedinthissection.

2007wastheyeartobegintotakestockof
progressmadeandtocompiletheresultsof
theimpactachieved.Thistaskbeganwith
theNovemberpresentationofageneral
programmereportandaninformation
videoandwillcontinuethroughthefirst
halfof2008inallofthecitieswhereweare
workingwiththepresentationofthereports
drawnupforeachoftheAutonomous
Communities.
In2007wesecuredthefutureoftheAcceder
Programmeuntil2013andduringtheyear
wedrewupthedraftframeworkforthenew
programmeandworkisunderwayonthe
definitionofeducationalactivitiesandcare
forimmigrantRoma,thetwonewlinesof
action.

Thenumberandrelevanceofservicesand
programmesundertheheading“Social
Action” was also significant in 2007.
Followingarethemostimportantnational
initiativesandEuropeanprojects.
WithintheframeworkoftheAgreement
signedwiththeMinistryofHousing,we
havecreatedathink-tankanddrawnupan
analysisandrecommendationsdocument
onthehousingsituationofRomaandan
importantnationalseminarwasheldin
October.Workalsocommencedthisyearon
theRoma Community Housing Map,astudy
whichwillbepresentednextyear.
Havingregardtohealth-care,mention
shouldbemadeofthenationalstudywe
conductedincollaborationwiththeMinistry
ofHealthandConsumerAffairs.Our
Foundationcontinuestoplayaleadingrole
inthepromotionofequaltreatment.In2007
wepresentedourthirdAnnualReporton
Discrimination and the Roma Community
(inSpanishandEnglish)andorganised15
trainingcoursesforjurists,policeofficers,
journalistsandotherprofessionalsinvolved
inthefightagainstdiscrimination.We
alsoadvisedanddefendedvictimsof
discriminationandfiledalawsuitinthe
so-called“Caso de la Nena”beforethe
EuropeanCourtofHumanRights.

Althoughtheterritorialsituationisvery
heterogeneous,inlinewiththetrendwhich
beganyearsagoFoundationactivityatlocal
andregionallevelisbecomingincreasingly
intenseandveryconsolidated,asituation
borneoutbythevolumeofprogrammes,
overandabovetheAccederemployment
programme,whichhavebeenimplemented
andtheimportantinstitutionalactivity
beingundertaken.
In2007insomecitiessuchasValencia,
Malaga,Barcelona,MadridandZaragoza,
thesocialworkprojectoftheLaCaixa
Foundation’schildren’sprogrammehas
beenimplementedandisgivingusaccessto
newfamilieswhichwehadnocontactwith
previously.Housinginitiativesinregions
suchasNavarre,Galicia,MurciaandMadrid
arealsopromisinginsofarastheyestablish
ourFoundationasthereferenceorganisation
inthisarea.
Theprovisionofservicestoimmigrant
Romaisalsobecomingrelevantinanumber
ofcitiesandislikelytoreceivegreater
attentionoverthenextfewyears.
Specialmentionshouldbemadeofsome
newinitiativesarisinginsomeofthe
territoriesandwhichareasignofouractive
implementationthereandthecreativity
ofourteams(cleaningprojectUzipen,
newkiosqueattheUniversityofNavarre

forthedevelopmentoftheactivitiesofthis
Institute.
