CREATIVE WORKS (continued) Youth Understanding MyPlate: Exploration Edition (YUM-EE) (continued)
YUM-EE is an evidence-based curriculum that includes 20 evidence-based, interactive lessons and support materials for 6th through 8th grade students. The curriculum was designed to teach middle school students the consumer messages of MyPlate through activities that reinforce these messages and encourage them to make healthy food choices. Each lesson includes an experiential learning activity and a physical activity related to the lesson
content. Unlike other nutrition curricula, YUM-EE uses food/nutrition science experiments in addition to health lessons as part of the experiential learning process. This curriculum meets the requirements for use by Florida’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program – Education (SNAP-Ed) and is the primary curriculum used by schools throughout the state to meet the SNAP-Ed requirements. The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program also uses this curriculum statewide. County Extension faculty attended a train-the-trainer program focusing on implementation of these lessons and received the lesson materials. Graduate student co-authors contributed to the development of this extensive curriculum.
Creative Work Title/Description
Curriculum Guide The YUM-EE Curriculum Guide provides detailed information for conducting each lesson and includes lesson concepts, a literature review, learning and behavioral objectives, identification of the Florida Standards/Common Core covered in each lesson, educator notes, templates for materials needed for the lessons and frequently asked questions.
CD-ROM Includes all documents in the Curriculum Guide, as well as materials needed for each lesson such as evaluation forms, activity sheets, game pieces, handouts, etc.
