Amethi, Oct 23Petroleum Minister ShriDharmendra Pradhan saidthe Pradhan Mantri UjjwalaYojna (PMUY) aims atproviding five crore LPGconnections to BelowPoverty Line householdsin the country within threeyears. The Ministeryesterday in Amethi said,the ambitious project,launched by Prime MinisterShri Narendra Modi atBallia on first of May thisyear, would transform thelives of women of BPLfamilies by reducing thedrudgery of cooking withpolluting fuels and go along way in reducing

indoor pollution and otherhealth hazards.Shri Pradhan said thatPMUY aims at replacingthe polluting cooking fuelsmostly used in rural areaswith more clean andefficient LPG. He said, thatnearly 90 lakh LPGconnections have beenreleased to needy familiesunder the scheme and the'Pahal Yojna', anotherscheme initiated by thePetroleum Ministry whichhas received worldwideacclaim. The schemedirectly credits cash intothe beneficiaries' accountand has put to rest theleakage of LPG subsidies.

Port Blair, Oct. 23 The Traffic Branch ofA&N Police has conducteda special drive against theobstructive parking in theareas of Port Blair city viz.Bathu Basthi, Junglighat,Goalghar, Light House,Delanipur, Phoenix Bay,Ratnam Market and ClockTower. It is being noticedthat the vehicles areincreasing day by day in thePort Blair city which iscausing major trafficcongestions. During thisdrive Traffic Branch

deployed 50 IRBnpersonnel and 100 RecruitPolice Constables from PTSaccompanied by TrafficBranch's staff. This effortsof Traffic Branch hasreduced trafficcongestions and helped forfree flow of vehicular trafficin the Port Blair city and thisdrive will be continued fornext two days.
