At Hult, you’ll learn about the world
Cultural differences matter more than ever, so at Hult you’ll be immersed in diversity from day one.
Global businesses are run by local people Globalization is a fact of business life. Markets are more interconnected than ever before, companies are becoming multinational quicker, and global trade is taking a bigger and bigger percentage of global GDP.
However, business practices remain resolutely local. Attitudes to things like timekeeping, communication style, and consensus building are deeply rooted in the local culture. Failure to navigate these fundamental differences is a major reason for not succeeding in international business. As a result, employers are increasingly looking to hire people with the ability to operate in a culturally diverse environment.
Learn to work across cultures The classroom diversity at Hult is unparalleled. Over the course of their degree, the average Hult student will work directly with teammates of over 30 different nationalities. Exposure to this broad range of cultures ensures that you graduate with a true appreciation of cultural differences and a deep understanding of how to navigate these effectively and sensitively in a working environment.
You can also choose to take advantage of Hult’s global campus network to gain on-the-ground experience of international business around the world. Encompassing Boston, San Francisco, London, Dubai, Shanghai, and New York—our unique Global Campus Rotation enables you to study in up to three locations within your one-year program. Almost half of all students take advantage of the opportunity to study at more than one campus and experience different cultures, explore employment options, or simply visit family and friends.
Graduate with a global mindset Whichever route you choose through Hult, you are guaranteed to learn what makes other cultures tick, gain an international perspective on business, and graduate with friends and connections all over the world—an incredibly valuable asset in your international career. Being immersed in the diversity at Hult will change the way you see the world forever.

Change is happening faster than ever, so at Hult you’ll learn about the technologies driving this disruption.
Traditional businesses cannot keep up We live in an age of upheaval. New technologies are changing the world as we know it, faster than ever before. As a result, the average life span of major companies is reducing dramatically. And the opportunity to create new enterprises is increasing substantially.
Traditional businesses are struggling because, unlike historic innovations that developed linearly over time, these new technologies are growing at unprecedented speed. Even the most experienced executives have been caught off guard by the impact these disruptive technologies have had on whole industries in such a short space of time. And the rate of change is only getting faster.
Learn to see the opportunity, and the risk At Hult, we believe it is important that you have an understanding of these emerging technologies and their potential impact. Technologies like artificial intelligence, blockchain, virtual reality, autonomous vehicles, 3D printing, and gene editing.
Each of these technologies has the power to change the world, for both better and worse. Autonomous vehicles will radically reduce the number of road deaths, but may cause mass unemployment. Gene editing has the potential to eliminate terrible diseases, but raises serious ethical questions around our right to manipulate the building blocks of life.
Graduate with a future mindset At Hult, you will learn the basics of these disruptive technologies, hear from industry experts leading their development, and discuss the likely implications of their adoption. You will also identify potential opportunities they could create for your own entrepreneurial ambitions, for companies of all sizes, and for the world’s most disadvantaged communities.
At Hult, you’ll learn about the future

At Hult, you’ll learn about yourself
We all have strengths and weaknesses, so at Hult you’ll learn how you can improve on both.
You can improve anything with practice The fact is, we all have things we’re good at and things we struggle with. Many of these attributes are determined by our genes and our upbringing. But at Hult, we believe that rather than just accepting these are impossible to change, it’s important to realize that we can build on our strengths and overcome our weaknesses. Because, as with any skill, we can improve with practice.
Skills such as being able to communicate clearly, being able to work in teams, influence others, and simplify complex problems are as important to success in business as having knowledge of the fundamental disciplines, such as finance, marketing, and operations. At Hult, you’ll work on both types of skills.
Learn to lead We’ve taken advanced practices from leadership development courses and built them into all our degree programs. It’s this approach that earned us the 2014 AMBA Innovation Award.
During the early part of your program, you’ll examine your personal attributes and what your strengths and weaknesses are on a number of leadership dimensions. Then, throughout the rest of the program, you’ll be given the opportunity to focus on a selection of key skills that you’ll improve through practice as well as faculty guidance, peer-to-peer feedback, and professional coaching.
Graduate with a growth mindset No matter what your starting point on each of these key leadership skills, you can improve through constant practice and feedback. This proven technique means that you’ll not only be more self-aware and able to make better decisions, you’ll also be able to see your behaviors changing and feel your effectiveness in groups and organizations increasing.

The first triple-accredited U.S. business school
Hult is recognized by business education’s three most prestigious international accrediting bodies: AACSB, AMBA, and EQUIS. We are the first and only business school in the U.S. to achieve this “triple crown” status, which is held by just one percent of business schools worldwide.
The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) is the world’s largest business education alliance and is internationally recognized as a hallmark of quality reserved for the world’s best business schools.
EQUIS is a global accreditation scheme granted and run by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), whose mission is to raise the standard of management education worldwide.
The Association of MBAs (AMBA) is the international impartial authority that represents the highest standard of achievement in postgraduate business education and is earned only by the best programs globally.

THE HULT STUDENTTHE HULT STUDENT
“Getting the chance to help solve a key strategic issue for a major global player such as the World Economic Forum (WEF) was one of the best learning experiences during my time at Hult.”
Languages spoken: English, Mandarin, and French
Why Hult? I believe that Hult is far more practical than other business schools. Rather than just learning about the theoretical and academic side of business, there’s also a huge focus on practical learning and team projects. Each class has its own practical project, and you work in diverse teams to deliver solutions to real challenges proposed by real clients.
Biggest personal impact? My Hult experience has changed me as a person and has given me an opportunity to really identify my strengths and skills. Seeking feedback regularly has been a valuable lesson for me. It’s not just about learning how to give feedback effectively, it’s also about learning how to receive it and execute real change.
Why did you decide to pursue an MBA? Having worked as a management consultant for Accenture, I was looking to broaden my knowledge of the core business functions and the workings of an operational team. Hult offered me a chance to acquire that in-depth knowledge. I also wanted to expand my international network, and what better place to do that than at one of the most international business schools out there?
Best memory? Getting the chance to help solve a key strategic issue for a major global player such as the World Economic Forum (WEF) was one of the best learning experiences during my time at Hult. There have been more practical challenges throughout the course, and they have been a great insight into real-life scenarios that I may well be faced with at some point during my career.
Why San Francisco? San Francisco is at the heart of the global startup ecosystem. Being so close to Silicon Valley and being around so many startups, venture capital firms, and multinationals make it an amazing place to learn. The opportunities to network and attend meetups are plentiful, you just need to put yourself out there.

Why Hult? Hult offers a curriculum that emphasizes soft skills and leadership. Students are diverse and come with different experiences that others can benefit from, which is reflected in the real business world. Hult also offers electives at their campuses around the world, which is something that very few business schools can compete with. Most professors are international and have global business expertise—they transfer their high level of skills and knowledge to students.
Biggest lesson learned? I’ve learned about various economies, their practices, and how any model is replicable when tailored well to specific needs and situations. Hult helped me to shape my focus, deal well with workload management, and work more effectively. I’ve also learned that nothing is easy and great achievements can only happen as a result of hard and consistent work. It’s okay to fail, as long as you learn from your mistakes and do better when another opportunity presents itself.
How have your skills developed? Working with an international cohort has developed my communication skills. I’ve learned that working environments can be difficult and that keeping high standards and integrity at all times will always pay off.
Why Dubai? Dubai is the most fast-paced and modern economic hub in the Middle East. It’s known for its world-class development infrastructure. The population of Dubai is diverse and offers insights and experiences people can learn from and apply elsewhere. In terms of education, Dubai has attracted top business schools such as Hult with an emphasis on scientific studies, entrepreneurship, and cutting edge technology. This offers students a platform to practice skills that can be applied globally.

Why study business at Hult? Hult’s unique award-winning program appealed to me as it’s based on developing adaptive thinking, communication, teamwork, and execution. The emphasis on gaining soft skills is very much in tune with the needs of modern business today.
How have you changed? I’m now more likely to embrace challenges, persist in the face of setbacks, and see effort as the natural path to mastery. Hult has had a tremendous impact on my motivation, productivity, and confidence. In the pursuit of success in business today, a growth mindset is everything.
How has the program helped you to achieve your career goals? The Career Development team at Hult has given me valuable insights regarding my resume and LinkedIn profile, as well as great tips for competency-based interviews.
Best memory? My favorite Hult memory is participating in the Hult Prize—the world’s largest student competition for social good and entrepreneurship. The possibility of joining this challenge to solve a pressing social issue around topics such as food, security, water access, and education was amazing. We reached the Hult campus finals but were not selected to go through to the regional finals. Despite that, we got the attention of potential investors, venture capitalists, and even an IMF (International Monetary Fund) representative who are all interested in funding our idea in the very near future.

“I’m now more likely to embrace challenges, persist in the face of setbacks, and see effort as the natural path to mastery. In the pursuit of success in business today, a growth mindset is everything.”

What motivated you to pursue an MBA? Prior to Hult, I worked as a Senior Relationship Manager at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. I had reached a point in my life where I was ready for the next step. For me, that was two things: discovering what I was passionate about career-wise and living out my dream to move to New York. In an intensive one-year program, the Hult MBA offered the opportunity to do both.
Biggest learning? Participating in the Hult Prize was a great lesson in itself. It opened my mind to an entrepreneurial way of thinking—having been involved in non-profits before, the social element really excited me. I never knew how much time and effort went into creating a successful business, and the Hult Prize gave me a glimpse into that process. The presentation side of the challenge increased my overall learning and refreshed a sense of confidence and energy in the way I communicate.
How has the program helped you to achieve your aims? By being given the choice of multiple courses at Hult, I made two important realizations—that it was finance I was most interested in, and that I wanted to make the transition from private to corporate banking. It’s easy to lose clarity about which direction you’re going in your career, but Hult has allowed me to streamline my thinking and identify a strategic pathway to reach my goals.
Hult is... an enriching, life-changing experience that I will forever be grateful for. I made new lifelong friends, earned my MBA, and I now have more clarity about my future both personally and professionally.

“We gain a unique insight into different cultures, which is something that gives you a huge advantage within business.”
Languages spoken: English and German
Why Hult? My aim was to use Hult as a catalyst to expand my business experience outside of engineering. I wanted to add management and business knowledge to my technical expertise to understand the holistic picture of business. The diversity at Hult, from the students to the staff, is something I would not want to miss out on.
Biggest challenge? I was aware of the fact that Hult claimed to be an international business school but I didn’t expect it to be true to that extent. The challenge of communicating with so many different cultures has been an eye-opening and valuable experience. On a daily basis, I get to talk about contemporary topics with my cohort. We discover each other’s views on our own country’s issues and we gain a unique insight into different cultures, which is something that gives you a huge advantage within business.
Biggest lesson learned? Overall, I’ve learned about how important it is to learn from others. Whenever we discuss cases in class, professors ask about our personal experiences. Once we start sharing our past and everyone begins to chime in—that’s when we learn the most. In class—and in business—it’s imperative to be open to other people’s insights and opinions and to not only learn from your own mistakes and experiences but also from others’.
Hult is... like family. The staff, including the Deans, are so attentive. They remember your name, talk to you between classes, and always have an open ear for any kind of problem.
Philip ProhaskaGermanClass of 2019MBA with a Dual Degree in Masters in Business AnalyticsSan Francisco campus
Languages spoken: English, Cantonese, and Mandarin
Why Hult? After 13 years working for the Home Office, I was looking for a business school that could help me gain leadership skills and go further. I felt pigeonholed in the civil service and non-profit sectors and needed exposure to the wider business landscape. Hult seemed like the right place to do all of this, and I was right.
Biggest lesson learned? Hult has made me more assertive and confident of what my strengths are. I’ve learned to embrace what I am good at, rather than focusing on what I’m not. I’ve also learned by studying in such a diverse cohort that I don’t need to be good at everything. When working as a team, every individual brings different strengths to the table.
What’s it like in the Hult classroom? Hult professors deliver interactive lectures. They all have something to offer due to their years of experience working in a variety of industries. Classes include practical activities that allow us to identify and analyze our own reactions to situations we may have assumed we would have reacted differently to. These also give us invaluable experience interacting with and getting feedback from clients.
How has the program helped you to achieve your aims? It has broadened my horizons and given me real-life experience of working alongside people from other cultures, industries, and programs who all bring different perspectives and ideas. The Career Development team gave me the opportunity to connect with and speak to alumni who are based in other countries and industries. They provided insights into the challenges they experienced when first entering the business world and shared tips on how to overcome them.

Throughout your degree, you will put the theory and skills you’re learning into practice with real challenges from real clients. Leadership in the real world
Leadership, more than any other area of business, is about practical skills—not theory. We interviewed 100 of the world’s leading CEOs to find out what business graduates need in order to be effective leaders in today’s workplace and built a leadership development program based on these insights, which is fully integrated into your MBA program.
An award-winning approach
Self-assessments, personality and leadership diagnostics, and coaching will assess your skills, but the real work happens throughout your core program. You’ll learn to reflect on your performance, see it evolve, and come to welcome experiences as growth opportunities. It’s a groundbreaking approach that won Hult the Association of MBAs (AMBA) Innovation Award.
Peer feedback, structured coaching
Like the real world, where colleagues shape your professional development, peer feedback is central to leadership development at Hult. You’ll be part of a small group who will observe each other, feedback on each other’s performance, practice skills together, and support each other at every step. Your coach will also be on hand to run workshops and help you reflect on your performance.
Leadership developmentBecoming an effective leader requires truly knowing yourself and learning how to bring out the best in others. Hult’s leadership program will help you identify your strengths and weaknesses and develop critical skills through continual practice, feedback, and coaching.

Business coreDuring the first half of the year, you’ll study fundamental business knowledge relevant to today’s rapidly changing landscape. Professors with years of industry experience will bring the subject to life in interactive classes, and students from all over the world—all with different professional backgrounds—will give you a fresh, global perspective on the issues raised.
Global Strategy
Develop a deep understanding of the challenges top management in today’s corporations face when implementing corporate and global strategy. Executives face constant change in global industry as well as in their own backyard. The solutions they must define strike a delicate balance between adapting strategic thinking to business realities and implementing attitudes that are essential to motivating their teams.
Analytics in Business Decisions
In this new world of information overload, employers actively seek candidates who have the ability to translate data into actionable solutions. Place yourself at the intersection of statistical analysis and business knowledge so that you can make meaningful, impactful contributions to any business.
Organizational Behavior
Explore the psychological and sociological foundations of individual and group behavior in organizations so that you can improve your ability to motivate others, make decisions, design organizations, and navigate national and corporate cultures, with a special focus on multicultural business contexts.
Financial Management
Develop the financial and logical skills to understand and discuss financial policy in a global economy. Objectives include developing an understanding of the time value of money, using financial statements in decision making, and understanding the nature of financial markets, the cost of capital, and the valuation of stocks and bonds.
Operations Management
One of the major functions of organizations is the delivery of goods and services to meet customer demand. You’ll develop an understanding of operations management in both service and manufacturing organizations, with an emphasis on international operations.
Accounting
Examine the framework of accounting principles emphasizing revenue and expense recognition, valuation of assets and liabilities, financial statement analysis, management communication, and the use of accounting to measure, analyze, and report economic events for internal organizational purposes.
Managerial Economics
Study the analytical foundations that are essential to rigorously address key issues in competitive strategy, marketing strategy, and related fields to make better decisions. You’ll review companies’ strategic decision-making problems, their available options, and how the competitive environment affects performance.
Leadership Development
Build on the skills and models introduced during immersion and specifically focus on growth mindset, interpersonal influence, and team collaboration. Through interactive and collaborative learning, you’ll build skills in communication, relationship building, persuasion, negotiation, and conflict resolution. The workshops are a companion to Hult’s peer feedback process and can provide input on your development priorities.
Immersion
Immersion is a combination of learning academic fundamentals, leadership development, building new relationships, and forging a sense of community, all while orienting yourself with the city and campus. Through the use of dynamic simulations, team-building activities, case studies, role-plays, and lectures, you’ll develop a growth mindset and learn what we describe as “The Hult DNA”—the competencies and skills that the marketplace values most highly for trained business professionals. This will give you an engaging start to the year that will set a firm foundation for your future growth.
Business & Global Society
Explore the economic, social, and political context of global business and identify the institutional frameworks that shape the wider context of business. There will be a special focus on defining and understanding the meaning, importance, and implications of social responsibility for all stakeholders.
International Marketing
Learn the processes involved in the creation, communication, pricing, and distribution of products. Through a managerial perspective, you’ll understand the tasks and decisions faced by marketing managers, including target market selection, competitive positioning, and distribution strategies. There’s a particular emphasis on international marketing contexts.
Future Mindset
In the next ten years the rise of new exponential technologies will change economics and daily life around the world. Making sense of the possibilities and experiences that a new world of mobility, big data, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence will bring requires a future mindset that can understand and act in rapidly shifting digital contexts, organizations, and technologies. Hult students will build competencies in the mindsets and approaches of the new digital economy, exploring the contexts in which digitally forward organizations define new opportunities—and how they turn these opportunities into learning and growth.

“Disruption is in Hult’s history. We train responsible leaders who apply global systems, futures, and entrepreneurial thinking to complex, cutting-edge innovation horizons. Students get to experiment with different types of competitions, simulations, and disruptive technology in what I consider a cross-cultural learning lab.”
“In my corporate roles, I faced ethical dilemmas affecting business—and these experiences inform my course. I encourage students to think holistically and creatively to find market-based solutions to support the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and eradicate poverty.”
What first motivated your interest in sustainability and social impact?
When I realized that business—from the steam engine to the automobile, from time-saving appliances to life-saving medicines— has always been about making our lives better. Aside from improving our lives through what they make, businesses can change lives. I chose business as a career path because of my belief in its life-changing, transformative power. Why are these themes so important for business students?
We are all interconnected today—nothing happens in a vacuum. We have seen time and again how all the issues today are global issues: what happens in one country no longer stays in that country, and just as issues cross boundaries, so must the solutions. There are also huge opportunities presented by solving some of the world’s most pressing social challenges. Why do you teach at Hult?
Because I believe very strongly in its mission to develop truly global-minded, ethical leaders who can take the world forward in ways that are positive, innovative, and inclusive. Students who come to Hult are unique—they really want to understand each other’s culture and the world around them and how, together, they can make it better.

Where do Hult MBA graduates work post-graduation?
After 10 years as a Financial Analyst in New York, Jane wanted a new life as a consultant in London. Finding an employer happy to sponsor her visa was tough, but she’s now living her dream with EY.
I wanted my MBA to help me transition from the finance sector in New York into consultancy. I applied to roles in other firms here in London, but once they knew I needed a work visa they were reluctant.
As a global firm that encourages diversity, EY had no issues with sponsoring my visa once I had successfully made it through the interview rounds. Hult’s Career Development team really supported me through the stages of interviewing, ensuring I was able to effectively pitch to any audience. The entire application process took about three months, and by January I was ready to start my new career as a senior consultant in the London office. Maintaining a growth mindset is key when it comes to making a career change. It is hard to get a company sponsorship, but keep believing in yourself, apply to any opportunity you find, and be sure to think through the practicalities of your decision—this is a big, life-altering transition.

“Working with such diverse teams and living abroad gave me a much better understanding of cultures. This global mindset still benefits me today and helped me transition into the Chinese market."
“My Career Advisor supported me to strategically reshape my profile and make sure that what I could offer to the United Nations became more apparent. This revamping is what finally attracted the U.N.’s eye to an atypical candidate like me.”
What motivated you to come to business school?
I have a background in mechanical engineering with a particular focus on the automotive sector. My goal for the MBA program was to develop a well-rounded understanding of business and elevate my leadership skills. I also wanted to broaden my international experience and so being able to study in London, Boston, and Shanghai all in one year was just an incredible opportunity.
How has your MBA helped your career development?
I learned how to complement my specialized background in engineering with business, and this has given me a real edge in the workplace. The practical learning and challenges were extremely energizing and really made the learning stick.
Additionally, working with such diverse teams and living abroad gave me a much better understanding of different cultures. This global mindset still benefits me today and helped me transition into the Chinese market.
Did you have a specific career goal before you came to Hult?
Yes: I had very clear aspirations that I wanted to transition from working in the private sector with companies like EY and Danone to an international development institution, such as the United Nations, World Bank, or African Development Bank. An MBA was a good way for me to cement my experience and skillset before embracing the transition.
How did you make it a reality?
Hult‘s MBA program was instrumental in me landing an internship with the U.N. The program is compact yet diverse. I could broaden my social impact experience through participation in the Hult Prize and take courses with a social responsibility focus. Equally, I was also able to ensure that I understood key empirical concepts in finance and strategy, which came as part of our business core classes.
It gave me more confidence and allowed me to perform better at crucial moments during my internship. That performance was pivotal in me being hired as a consultant.
Did you work with the Career Development team?

Where entrepreneurs f lourish Entrepreneurialism is an ethos and attitude that runs throughout our teaching and career support. If you have ambitions to start your own business, Hult is the ideal environment in which to make those dreams a reality.
Michael came to Hult with bold ambitions. He knew he wanted to start his own business, he knew what that business was, and he knew it had the potential to change the world.
Why did you do an MBA if you knew you wanted to start your own business?
My reasons for getting an MBA were driven by my entrepreneurial ambitions. I wanted to get the right skills and the team to take my business idea forward. I needed a team of high achievers and people who were really driven and passionate to make a difference in the world. The team-building process was organic—at Hult I naturally found people who would benefit my team. Tell us about the business and your objectives.
Water scarcity is a big problem on a global scale, and we believe we have a solution to it. 70% of the world’s water is consumed by agriculture—and 50% of that goes to growing feed for livestock. Attis AgTech leverages robotics, AI, IoT, and blockchain to bring growing that feed into a controlled environment that uses 100x less water on a pound-for-pound basis. It’s healthier for the animals, it’s cleaner for the environment, and it reduces our carbon footprint. There’s even evidence that it reduces methane output, which is huge for climate change. Our overall objective is to create water security. But it’s also about economic security. The drought in California, for example, cost the agricultural industry an estimated $2.7 billion USD. How did your business develop while you were at Hult?
The fact that I could tie in developing the business with my capstone MBA challenge had a major impact. Not only did I build a dream team in a matter of weeks from within my cohort with the expertise it would’ve taken me years to find otherwise—a mechanical engineer, a pharmaceutical biological chemist, a finance and trading specialist, a marketer—we made connections with experts, entrepreneurs, innovation consultants, and venture capitalists. We won the challenge on the Boston campus and the business model is ready to go to market. We’re now raising the seed capital we need to launch.
Michael BallardAmericanFounderAttis AgTechMBA with a Dual Degree in Masters in Finance Class of 2018Boston campus
After graduating from the MBA program in Shanghai in 2015, Sabrina Palme and Andre Quintanilha took the entrepreneurial leap of faith to launch the world’s first personal smart garden. Now, 14 months later, they’ve raised over £200,000 in investment and are delivering simple food sustainability solutions to one smart household at a time.
“During one summer evening in Shanghai, Andre and I randomly discovered we had a mutual interest in hydroponics. It was just one conversation, but my imagination was sparked. I enrolled in the MBA program in the hopes of finding my passion and making a difference in the world. I couldn’t help thinking this could be something big.
After graduation, while both living and freelancing in London, Andre and I decided to go for it. We dedicated all our spare time to developing our food tech startup, Gartenzwerg. Pairing IoT technology with natural home gardening designs, the business champions the shift into smart households to encourage better food sustainability practices.
Having previously worked together to launch our own startup as part of our core business challenge, we knew we had complementary skillsets. The learnings we took from our practical challenges were invaluable in understanding our concept for Gartenzwerg. How do you project sales? How do you estimate the value of your company? The questions we needed to answer were the same. And we had honed our skills of working as a team and making decisions in uncertain environments—we were already half-way there thanks to our MBA experience.
We would come home in the evening and start researching prototypes. We were functioning on about four hours’ sleep a night and dedicating every waking moment to our day jobs or to the startup. Our office resembled a jungle! But it was exhilarating to be back in such an intense environment.
A few months later, everything changed when we found an angel investor through the Hult alumni network. He invested in Gartenzwerg, and we could now start focusing full-time on the startup. Shortly after, we participated in the IoT Tribe accelerator program and hired three more members of staff, covering expertise in embedded systems, software engineering, and plants science.
It’s been incredible to see we’ve been getting more and more exposure to the outside world. We have just launched pre-orders on Indiegogo and we plan to commence worldwide shipping by the end of this year.
Earlier this year, we had an exciting new opportunity in the Asian market come in. Andre and I traveled to China to visit manufacturers there, and the fact that we lived a year in Shanghai turned out to be a huge benefit for us. We knew their business customs, understood the cultural differences and knew what things to look out for (especially in terms of IP protection). It was then I realized it wasn‘t just the Hult MBA courses that added value, but also the international exposure of where we did it.”

The iconic city for those in search of the American Dream, New York is a destination unlike any other. Our rotation center, located in Manhattan, puts you at the heart of this powerful metropolis that is globally influential in commerce, finance, and media.
The iconic American city
When people think of America, they often think of New York City. For more than a century, people have flocked here from all over the world in the hopes of making their fortune and building a better life—pioneers who created the foundation of today’s intoxicating metropolis. Home to the financial giants of Wall Street and the advertising giants of Madison Avenue, business doesn’t get more exciting than this. Notoriously competitive and proudly ambitious, New York is not for the fainthearted. But that’s exactly what makes it so exciting.
Where commerce and politics intersect
Business and global politics are two sides of the same economic coin, and nowhere more so than in New York City—home to both Wall Street and the United Nations. Students at Hult New York are well positioned to explore this complex relationship firsthand with ready access to the worlds of finance, marketing, and politics. Past events have included discussions with the Honorable Thomas Reeve Pickering, former U.S. Ambassador; visits to Bloomberg headquarters; and guided tours of the United Nations headquarters.

How will you change the world? The world’s largest social impact prize at Hult International Business School
Creating businesses for a better worldThe Hult Prize is a worldwide student competition that challenges university teams to solve the most pressing global issues with viable business ideas.
Ideas that change lives
Our students have always wanted to make a difference. In 2009 while studying for his MBA at Hult Boston, Ahmad Ashkar was inspired to do business differently. While working on an MBA project, he realized the power of crowd-sourcing ideas and the on-the-ground impact social entrepreneurship could have on the most disadvantaged communities. The Hult Prize was born.
Money to make a difference
Each year the Hult Prize focuses on a specific social problem. Students around the world form teams and develop social enterprises that solve this problem. Through a series of elimination competitions around the world, 40 teams are selected to attend the Hult Prize accelerator at Hult’s Ashridge campus in the U.K. From this accelerator program five to six teams go through to present at the Global Finals, hosted at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The winning team is awarded $1M USD to get their business off the ground.
• Students from any university in the world on any program can compete in teams of three to four.
• 100,000 student entrepreneurs from over 1,300 universities applied to take part in the 2018 Hult Prize.
• The competition is recognized as the gold standard for student social entrepreneurs, with teams from the world’s best-known universities taking part including Harvard, Yale, Oxford, Cambridge, National University of Singapore, and hundreds more.
• Regionals are held in 15 cities around the world, hosted by leading universities, including Hult International Business School.
• Students of Hult International Business School are highly encouraged to take part in the Hult Prize. We run workshops to help students form teams and develop their ideas, hold internal competitions, and host five of the regionals on our campuses. The Hult Prize is a hallmark of the Hult experience.

Keisuke “Kei” Kubota, Nataliey “Taliey”
Bitature, and Manon Lavaud
How did you come up with the idea?
We started with the idea of solar-powered backpacks in India. Three weeks before the internal campus competition, we pitched the idea at a startup weekend. It was well received but ultimately it became clear the idea wasn’t going to work in urban areas of India. We had to scrap the whole idea and start again.
After some intense research and development, we arrived at the Musana Carts prototype with Kampala in Uganda—where Taliey spent her childhood—as the initial target market. We went on to win the San Francisco campus competition, and then the regionals, and were one of six teams to pitch at the Global Finals.
Did you do any field research?
We spent six days in Uganda. Working 15-hour days, we managed to hold focus groups and were able to better understand our customers—their routines, lives, habits, family situations, dreams, and challenges. We met several local business owners and managed to get our prototypes out
on the street to see what vendors thought.
What was the challenge?
The Hult Prize Challenge was to double the income of 10 million people residing in crowded urban
spaces by 2022.
What was your solution?
A solar-powered cart for vendors selling street food. We aim to provide urban street vendors with cleaner, safer, and more efficient solutions to their cooking, storage, and financing needs.
How did you build the team?
Manon, the team captain: Taliey and I were partners in a Design Thinking exercise during a Social Innovation class at Hult. From then I knew that if I joined the Hult Prize, I wanted Taliey by my side. Kei was on the same program and was the missing piece of the puzzle that joined us later.
