Rural Tourism and Agri-tourism
Tourism generally is a constantly growing branch with strong
economic potential
Effects in rural economy:
For rural areas it offers new jobs, creation of GDP, income in local
taxes, consumption directly in the region, new infrastructure,
new services, interest in cultural heritage and traditions, better
look of villages and landscape, introducing new technologies,
increasing of living standard for inhabitants, balancing regional
disparities

Assumptions for rural tourism development in Slovakia:
Primary and secondary offer of tourism at the whole area of
Slovakia (different natural amenities, rich cultural and
historical heritage, tourism infrastructure).

Support of Rural Tourism and Agri-tourism in Slovakia
• 1995-2000 – Ministry of Agriculture SR, state subsidy for diversification of agricultural activities, reconstruction of buildings for rural tourism and agri-tourism activities, buidling of supplementary services, training and education programmes
• Phare projects, foundations, funds – building of tourism infrastructure – information and communication systems, promotion materials, trainings and education
• 2000-2004 – SAPARD programme – diversification of agricultural activities in rural areas

Cooperation among the businesses, local government and tourism subjects - common projects and surveys, - common information system of the destination - common promotion (promotion materials, exhibitions, etc.)- creation of common tourism product - information exchange, - coomon representation of association members
State support of zonal and regional tourism associations - Amendment of the Law on Tourism No. 386/2011 from 19.10.2011 introduces the state support for associations depending on amount of tourism overnight taxes in the area
