GOOD SHEPHERD PARISH FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT DECEMBER 20, 2015
Message from Monsignor René Mathieu: (1) We are updating our database in preparation for the survey of parishioners (age 18+) as part of a national study. To do this, we prefer you go to our website (www.GoodShepherdParish.us). You can also send us an email ([email protected]). Include name, email address & phone – a mailing address can also be helpful for parish purposes. We will also provide pieces of paper to write this infor-
mation at all Masses this weekend. The survey will be emailed to you in mid-January. Printed copies will be available for those who do not use email. (2) I am writing this on December 8 and there is no snow forecast through at least December 20. It appears my novena to Our Lady of No Snow has been working! (3) I remind everyone that the vast majority of parishioners and visitors usually attend the 4 pm/4:30 pm Christ-mas Masses, so if you prefer less crowded circumstances, you may want to attend other Masses in the parish. Again this year, the 4:00 pm Christmas Eve Mass at St. Joseph will include large screen remote video of the Mass for any overflow crowd in the church hall – about 1300 total participated last year, I believe. People will be com-fortable in the hall with a printed program, a music leader, ushers, and seating; Eucha-ristic ministers will distribute Holy Communion at the appropriate time. The choir loft will be open, but only for as many who can be comfortably and safely seated there. Fr. Ron Labarre, Fr. David Schlaver and Biddeford native, Fr. Lee Descoteaux will help with our extended Christmas Mass schedule. By the way, Fr. Descoteaux is un-dertaking the study of canon law in Rome for the Diocese of Rockville Center (in New York State). (4) Father Antonydass, Father Robert and I wish every parishioner and visitor a blessed and peaceful Christmas season. We welcome family members and visitors returning to the area for the holy feasts, including a priest from Rome, college students and members of the armed forces; you are dearly missed when you are away. I celebrate this beloved season with gratitude for the many blessings given our parish over the last year. While we continue to struggle with complex issues related to Church and society, I recognize many signs of hope: the affection for Pope Francis; parents bringing their newborn babies to Mass for the first time; children and adults preparing for the Easter sacraments; couples approaching us to have weddings validated or to return to the practice of the faith; others returning to the practice of sacramental confession − all happening quietly. Many varied programs offer opportunities to parishioners to explore and grow in faith; the growth in such small group experiences somewhat mystifies and pleases me greatly. These many grace-filled moments shine like the star of Bethlehem over Good Shepherd Parish. For some parishioners, the joy of Christmastime can be overshadowed by the death of loved ones, sad memories, or even depression. Be assured that you are not forgotten in the prayers of your priests; we pray daily for all our parishioners, especially for the sick and brokenhearted. If you are feeling burdened, bring your heartache to prayer and reach out to a neighbor or friend to share your experience. (5) Thank You of the Week: To parents who enable their children to serve at Mass. I know this activity involves a commitment of the entire family. Thank you!

Good Shepherd Parish selected to participate in a National Study! Good Shepherd Parish has been selected to participate in a national
study of vibrant parishes conducted by the Catholic Leadership Institute! This survey is for parishioners 18 years of age and older.
Please help us participate by completing a 10-15 minute survey online. The survey will be emailed to you by [email protected]. The survey will only be available from the week of Jan 18, through Ash Wednesday, Feb. 10, and will ask you to reflect on your own spiritual growth and enable you to provide feedback on what efforts the parish is doing to help you grow. All responses will be confidential and the parish will only receive information about the community as whole.
This information
will be invaluable to Msgr. Mathieu and our various ministries as we plan ahead and try to be the best disciples we can be. We will receive the results
this summer, at which time we will share what we have learned with the entire parish.
We need your email address − please go to our website www.goodshepherdparish.us and click on the Disciple Maker Index
Survey on our homepage to fill out your name, address, & email address. You can also send an email to [email protected]. (Please place “Survey” in the subject line). You will also have an oppor-tunity to fill out a paper form with this information at all Masses, Dec. 19 & 20 at all our churches.
If you don’t use email – There will be a generic link that you can use to complete the survey on our website.
There will be opportunities to complete the survey after daily and Sunday Mass, as there will be paper copies of the survey at each church location; or you can contact the office at 271 Main St., Saco; or call 282-3321 to obtain one.
Thank you for helping with this important project!
We are trying to get the highest response rate possible.
