June 24, 2018 - The Nativity of John the Baptist
CREDO: A New Evangelization Witness
by Fr. Bob Schreiner
Within the devotional life of the Catholic Church, there is a generally accepted
practice of assigning units of time with a special focus. The example most all of
you might be familiar with is within the devotion of the Holy Rosary. Each day of
the week has a specific Set of Mysteries assigned on which to focus. Monday - the
Joyful Mysteries; Tuesday - the Sorrowful Mysteries; Wednesday - the Glorious
Mysteries; Thursday - the Luminous Mysteries; Friday - the Sorrowful Mysteries;
Saturday - the Joyful Mysteries again; and Sunday - the Glorious Mysteries again.
So, too, each day of the week is assigned a special devotional focus which can aide
in guiding and shaping our thoughts, meditations and prayers. Traditionally: Sun-
days are focused on the Resurrection & Holy Trinity; Mondays are dedicated to the
Holy Spirit & The Poor Souls in Purgatory; Tuesdays focus in on The Holy
Angels; Wednesdays is for St. Joseph; Thursdays keys in on the Gift of the Holy
Eucharist in the Blessed Sacrament; Fridays, of course, are dedicated to the Passion
of Christ and his Sacred Heart while Saturdays follow with Our Lady's Sorrows
and her Immaculate Heart.
And lest any smidgen of time be left undedicated to a celestial thought - the Church
traditionally assigned a devotional focus for each month as well. January - The
Holy Name of Jesus; February - The Holy Family; March - St. Joseph; April - The
Blessed Sacrament; May - The Blessed Virgin Mary; June - The Sacred Heart of
Jesus; July - The Precious Blood of Jesus; August - The Immaculate Heart of
Mary; September - the Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin; October - The Holy
Rosary; November - The Poor Souls in Purgatory; and December - The Immaculate
Conception and the Incarnation of the Word.
This practice of the devotional life of the Church is intended to remind us of what
we pray over the Paschal Candle: "Jesus Christ, yesterday and today, the begin-
ning and the end, the Alpha and the Omega; all time belongs to him and all the
ages, forever and ever. Amen." Thus the Church in her devotional prayer infuses
time itself with the rhythm of holy thoughts and prayers...
Next week, I will say more about the Month of July and the devotion to the
Precious Blood of Jesus.

Stewardship is a lifestyle, it’s not a program or a process. It’s how we are called to live our lives twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week! It challenges us to live “God-centered” lives, not “self-centered” lives. Reflect on your daily activities, do you do them for the glory of God or
for the glory of your own name?
