PROJECT MANAGEMENT DEFINED
WIKIPEDIA
• The discipline of planning, organizing, motivating and controlling
resources to achieve a specific goal. A project is a temporary
endeavor with a defined beginning and end (usually time-constrained,
and often constrained by funding or deliverables), undertaken to meet
unique goals and objectives, typically to bring about beneficial change
or added value.
PMI AND THE PMBOK
• Project management is the application of knowledge, skills and
techniques to execute projects effectively and efficiently. It’s a strategic
competency for organizations, enabling them to tie project results to
business goals — and thus, better compete in their markets.

WORK BREAKDOWN STRUCTURE DEFINED
WIKIPEDIA
• A deliverable oriented decomposition of a project into smaller
components.
• A WBS also provides the necessary framework for detailed cost
estimating and control along with providing guidance for schedule
development and control.
PMI AND THE PMBOK
• The work breakdown structure can be used to effectively decompose
the project scope, to improve estimating, to better control the project
execution and to more accurately verify project completion.
• The work breakdown structure approach allows us to visually see the
work that is needed in order to complete a project.
