FOREWORDThe graduation ceremonies are the highlight of our year. As an academic institution we are delighted to celebrate with you your achievement.
The ceremonies are a special occasion for you, friends, and family, and this year will be no exception. The ceremonies will be taking place at the Albert Halls in Bolton’s Town Hall. Nine graduation ceremonies will take place over four days in the Grade II listed building which dates back to the 1800s.
Our students always come first as we look to the future. We will continue to improve and evolve our distinctive high quality, Teaching Intensive, Research Informed programmes.
It is with great pride and delight to announce our merger with Bolton College to become part of the university group. A historic day for Bolton and a massive milestone for the university. We are the only university in Britain to have been granted statutory permission to merge with a higher education organisation.
I wish you the best of luck with your examinations and I look forward to welcoming you at the Albert Halls in Bolton in July.

TICKET INFORMATION
GRADUAND TICKETS
If you wish to attend your degree ceremony, please use our online booking system to register (Graduand tickets are free but you still need to register) no later than midnight on Friday 25 May 2018. Please note it will not be possible for us to process any late applications.
To register, visit www.bolton.ac.uk/graduation then click ‘Register for Graduation’ and log-in to your Student Record using your username and password. If you have any difficulties, please contact the help desk on +44 (0)1204 903 444 or email [email protected]
GUEST TICKETS
Once you have confirmed your attendance to the graduation ceremonies via your Student Record (see above), you can book up to three (four for PhD students)* guest tickets for your family or friends. You can book guest tickets online from Monday 25 June to Sunday 1 July 2018 (£12.50 each). This includes a seat in the venue, entrance to the drinks reception following your graduation and a souvenir brochure.
Your guest ticket(s) will be emailed to you. It is important that you print these out and bring them with you on graduation day. Students who apply to attend but then do not complete their studies will be invited to a future graduation ceremony.
(*If extra tickets become available, you will be notified by email on Wednesday 4 July 2018. These tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis.)
If, for some reason, you book guest tickets which you subsequently no longer require, please notify us by emailing [email protected] no later than Thursday 12 July 2018 and we will arrange a refund.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Please inform us when registering for your graduation of any special requirements you or your guests may have (e.g. wheelchair user, mobility problems, blind/partially sighted or deaf/hearing impairment), and we will make every effort to accommodate you. We will contact you to discuss arrangements, but if you have any queries, call our Disability Team on +44 (0)1204 903 478.
CHILDREN
Graduation ceremonies are joyful occasions, but the proceedings are formal and are not suitable for children aged five and under as experience has shown children become bored and restless. Should you struggle to find alternative arrangements there are limited free tickets available on a first come, first served basis. Children aged six and over would cost the same as an adult ticket. Please note due to the set-up of the hall it is very difficult to leave discreetly, therefore children’s seats will be located in a designated area.

Email [email protected] or call +44 (0)1204 903 333 for any queries not answered in this booklet or visit the university website at www.bolton.ac.uk/graduation

ACADEMIC DRESS
HOW TO BOOK YOUR ACADEMIC DRESS
All Graduands are entitled to wear academic dress (a gown, hood and cap) and in our experience most students choose to do so. Robes can be hired from William Northam either online www.williamnortham.com or by calling +44 (0)8702 401 852.
Queries regarding academic dress should be made directly to William Northam and further information on robes can be found via www.bolton.ac.uk/graduation/dress-photos. Cap sizes can be obtained by measuring the circumference of the head one inch/2.5 centimetres above the eyebrows, level round; please state measurement when booking.
The correct form of dress to accompany an academic gown is:
• Men a dark suit, collar and tie
• Women a dark suit with a white blouse, or a dark dress
Alternatively, national dress may be worn.
Safety pins and hair grips can be useful on the day to attach your hood and cap.
HOW TO BOOK YOUR PHOTOGRAPHS
The university’s official photographers, William Northam, will be present before and after the ceremony (although we encourage Graduands attending ceremony 7 to have their photographs taken prior to the ceremony).
In addition, a photograph will be taken (where possible) as you are presented on-stage during the graduation ceremony.
If you want an official photograph please pre-book by visiting www.williamnortham.com or call +44 (0)8702 401 852. The William Northam website will be closed from Thursday 12 July 2018. Please note it is possible to pay at the sales desk on the day.
TERMS & CONDITIONSWilliam Northam’s refund policy states that should you wish to cancel your
academic dress and photography order, you can do so free of charge within 14 days of your order being placed. Should you wish to cancel after the 14 day ‘cooling off
period’, you may still do so however a £1.50 administration charge will be deducted. All refund requests must be received at least seven days before your graduation ceremony date. To cancel please visit www.williamnortham.com and log into
‘My Account’ or email [email protected]

WHAT ELSE TO DO BEFORE GRADUATION
CERTIFICATES
Graduation certificates will be posted to your home address within eight weeks of your graduation, following approval by the relevant examination board. It is therefore essential that you advise the university of any change of address by the end of June 2018. You can update your address online at www.bolton.ac.uk/students/mydetails, click Student Record then input your university username and password. Changes after June need to be emailed to Tricia Collier at [email protected]. International students must confirm the address to which their certificate should be posted. Please email [email protected] and include your full name, student ID number and course. Until confirmation has been received, certificates will be held at the university.
VISAS
International students and their family and friends may need to apply for a visa to enter the UK to attend graduation. Information can be found at www.bolton.ac.uk/graduation-faqs If you require a ‘To Whom It May Concern’ letter for your application, email [email protected] or log-on to www.bolton.ac.uk/students/mydetails, click on Student Record and select the links under the Student Services heading.
