November in the Northwest means it’s time for the Jacobsen’s Marine Grady-White Salmon Derby held out of the Edmonds Yacht Club, WA. Scott Yetman has fished this tournament six years with family and friends on his Express 330, Off the Hook. This past year was the fifth that son Hunter Yetman, age nine, and Kyle Hoffman, ten, were onboard as well, and the boys’ five-pound, five-ounce catch earned them first place in the youth division. Here are their comments about the experience.

Q ��Had�you�been�out�on�the�water�that�early�before? Kyle: Yes, when we went

crabbing in past years.

Q��Were�you�sleeping�on�the�way�out?�Hunter: For five minutes then I woke up, went out of the cabin to see the sunrise and ate some breakfast.

Q Did�you�go�for�the�healthy�food�or��the�doughnuts? Kyle: I saw Hunter go for the doughnuts! Hunter: And I went for some cereal too.

Q When�you�are�out�fishing,�how�exciting�is�that? Hunter: When we catch a fish, it is pretty exciting. I think we caught four fish, and that was impressive because if we caught one more that would make one for each year Kyle and I have been doing the Derby.

Q What�was�the�most�exciting��part�of�the�day? Kyle: Probably when I stuck my finger inside the fish’s mouth. Hunter: Holding the fish.

Q What�do�you�know�about�baits��and�lures? Hunter: I love the squids. Kyle: I know that they come in different colors and shapes.

Q What�about�the�awards�ceremony? Kyle: We were the fourth largest fish overall and the biggest in the kids’ category. Hunter: We won Nerf guns!

Q What�is�your�favorite�thing��about�Grady-Whites? Kyle: I like how they fit everything in. It’s not just a plain boat. Hunter: My favorite thing about Off the Hook is you can fish on it and it has a bunk you can sleep in.

Q���If�your�moms�were�on�these�fishing�trips,�would�you�be�up�that�late? Hunter: No!! We stay up 'til 10 or 11!

Q��How�big�a�fish�will�you�catch�next�year? Kyle: It’s called fishing, not catching. Hunter: I am sure we can catch at least one tiny fish. Kyle: I’d like to do the tuna derby off the coast, too.

Q When�you�are�parents,�do�you��think�you�will�do�fishing�trips�like�this? Kyle: When I get a boat! We are lucky! Hunter: It was fun and interesting!

Nearly 50 people enjoyed the Chesapeake Bay Grady-White Club’s 10th Annual Holiday Party in January at The Barn at Ulmstead on the Magothy River. The candlelit party room was accented by lighted snowmen, baskets of Grady Gear and plenty of goodies and gift certificates. After a sumptuous buffet, club sponsor representative Ron Young from Tri-State Marine announced that a club membership is being included with each new Grady sale, first year dues contributed by the dealership. He also presented a $2000 check to the club. President Frank Gomme reviewed the 2012 calendar of

events, and after raffle and door prizes were drawn, Al Tober cranked up the music and all made merry into the night.

The Lake Erie Grady Club added twelve Grady-White owners to their roster at the Cleveland Boat Show, where spon-sor South Shore Marine was exhibiting. (That’s in addition to 12 owners signed up at South Shore’s Open House in December.) Big thanks to Joe Talty, George Kussai, Jim Patneua, Frank Debelius, Dave Spangler, Bill Jeancola, Dana Shively and Mike Manion for manning the club table and to Tom Mack and crew for the set up.

Baert Marine, Middleton, MA, hosted over 60 folks at its Northeast Grady-White Owners Club February social to learn about events for the upcoming season–tall ships, beach barbecue, and whale watching are on the schedule. Club t-shirts are now available featuring their new logo!

The Southeastern Mariners Grady-White Club held their Rockfish Tournament at Fishing Bay Harbor Marina, November 19. First place over-all went to Dr. Joe Evers fishing his Express 305. The Ladies division was won by Ronda Utterback, and Youth’s first place went to Franklin Falls, age ll, and second to Jonathan Falls, age 12. The boys fished with their fathers aboard their granddad’s Tournament 19. The club is sponsored by Southeastern Marine, Richmond, VA.

The Tidewater Grady-White Club February meeting featured guest speaker Chris Breeden, service manager and Yamaha master technician with club

sponsor Norfolk Marine. Also that month the club revved up a membership drive with club representatives on hand at the Mid-Atlantic Sports and Boat Show at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. Club burgees are now available!

Sundog Rides Again By Mark SunnerAdventure 208 owners Mark and Barbara Sunner took delivery of their second 208 in February, at Taylor Marine Center, Milford, DE, after making a visit to the Grady-White plant in Greenville, NC, to see Sundog II in production.

We fish the inshore waters off the Delaware coast as well as the Indian River and Rehoboth and Delaware bays. The Adventure 208 is the perfect boat for the area I fish. It is not only capable out in the ocean, but it is able to navigate shallow waters. As people around here

know, the Indian River Inlet can get pretty nasty. I wanted a boat that I could feel confident in when the inlet kicks up, and my Adventure 208 gives me that confidence. My favorite ocean fishing spots are between 10 and 20 miles out. Although I

try to pick days when the sea conditions are good, often the weather can change and what was a smooth ocean on the way out turns to a choppy sea on the way in. The SeaV2® hull cuts through the chop and I can honestly say I have never had a wet ride from bow spray. My 1994 Adventure 208, Sundog, never let me down in the all the years that I owned it. In fact, I seriously considered re-powering with a new four-stoke engine. However, after seeing all the nice changes that Grady-White made since 1994, I became convinced that I wanted to buy a 2012 model. Working with Dirk and Dave at Taylor Marine, my local Grady-White dealership, made the pro-cess painless. The fact that my boat held a very good resale value allowed me to be able to afford to buy new.

Many of my friends asked me why I wasn't moving up to a bigger boat. I admit that I did look at some of the larger Gradys and liked what I saw, but in the end I had to reflect back over the 18 years I had my boat, and in all that time I never said that I wished I had bought a bigger boat. It was the perfect fishing platform for me. This time I’m getting a few more options, like trim tabs and a hardtop. The hardtop has the added benefits of more rod holders, better support for the drop curtains, and more elevation for the radio anten-na thus better reception. And let’s not forget, it looks great! Being able to see my boat being produced was the icing on the cake!

Lake DaysDear Anchorline:Going through my notes from last sum-mer I came across this picture of me with all my grandkids at Lake Hartwell, SC, and want you to know how much my family enjoys our Tournament 205! When they say nothing runs like a Grady it is the truth. We got this one new at Seels Outboard, Charleston, SC. Last March when I got out the boat for the season she turned over but would not crank. My son Marty called Seels and was put in touch with the shop fore-man, Rob, who asked several questions and told us where to start. We were able to figure out it was that the fuel pump needed cleaning out and Rob walked us through the steps. She cranked right up. Rob was more concerned that we were able to use the boat for our planned weekend trip than making a service sale. What a nice man!
