Exterior Influence Maps
I found That I was inspired by the western take on Japaneseanimation. I really like the idea of a up side down city like the
images above, taken from Avatar the Legend of Aang.
This image has to contrasting
texture and I find that this
interesting as it is almost
surreal.
I found the concept of two
different landscapes
interesting when was I creating
cities with split appearances
like Shopronia.

First thumbnailsThese first thumb nails where quite strange, because of the bright colours that
seem misplaced. The thumbnails did help me come up with Ideas for later
thumbnails. I learnt that using to much colour could have negative effects on the
overall appearance of my work.

At this point I had begun to use less colour and focused on creating
structures. These thumbnails are inspired by the Cabinet Of Doctor Caligari

Chosen city
ArmillaKey Thumbnails for further development
I chose Armilla because its lack of completion. I felt that it was more incline to have
strange building shapes and a barren land. The visual concept that I prefer is the art
deco look, because it glamourizes locations. I thought that because Armilla and the
art deco concept contrast so much, that It would be interesting to try and create a
glamourized destroyed city.
I have more ideas that expand on the thumbnails above, these ideas incorporate key
feature of the city like the shape, environment, lighting and angling. The colour pallet
used doesnt really fit with the lore of Armilla. When expanding on the thumbnails I
will try to make the city feel darker and more desolate. I would like to create a city
which has a more dystopian appearance while still taking into account the art deco
style.
