A note from the President
Bette Fredericks
Homecoming! What a great theme for our Opening Day as we welcomed everyone back to their winter home. Tailga@ng and geAng ready for the BIG GAME! That’s the way to start a great season.
Diane Steward and her commiJee did a fabulous job making our Opening Day a great success. We will all have fond memories of a perfect day spent together.
Meredith Anderson handed out our indispensable directory – her 8th edi@on and coun@ng; with our ‘Cover-‐girl’ showcasing our very own celebrity Barb Parker. If you s@ll need your copy, you can pick it up in the golf shop. If you have a locker, a copy should be wai@ng for you. Also, if you desire an extra copy, they are available to purchase for only $2.
We are well on our way to a great season of golf. Don't forget to go to ForeTees and sign up for our Wednesday play-‐days or other GWGA events like Ironwood Cup, Catalina Cup, and our Home & Home events. And let's not forget the all-‐important President's Cup -‐ our 3-‐round flighted match play event!
We enter this year with a great membership roster – over 170 and coun@ng. Please come out and play so you get a chance to meet and greet our new members, and take advantage of all that membership in the GWGA has to offer.

Rules by Nancy
Nancy Harris
The USGA and the R&A have continually worked on updating and improving the rules of golf. Their current project is to “modernize” the rules of golf and make them easier to understand. It has been a long process but by this coming winter or spring they should be approved and will go into effect January 1, 2019. The USGA says that golfers are enthusiastic about the scope and direction of the changes. Proposed changes on the putting green are popular, including leaving the flagstick in the hole, repairing spike marks and eliminating the penalty for accidentally moving the ball. Let’s hope they truly are easier to understand. In the meantime, we will follow the current 34 rules through next year. Looking forward to seeing you all!

Registration closes November 6th.
The golf courses were re-‐rated after the directory was published, and the slope rating on the North Course has changed. Consequently, the Handicap Conversion Table in Appendix C of the Directory (pages 60-‐61) is now out-‐of-‐date. A new Handicap Conversion Table for the Rojo and Combo tees is available in the ladies locker room. Please look for a file folder on the desk (across from the bulletin board) labeled “Handicap Conversion Table.” Keep this conversion table in your golf bag so you can always have the correct course handicap close at hand.
When entering your score into the GHIN system, you will be given new choices for which tee was played, including “Rojo Left” and “Rojo Right.” On the South Course, this refers to the flag position on the par-‐3 Hole #14 (left green or right green). On the North Course, this refers to the flag position on the par-‐3 Hole #15 (left green or right green). And then, you can say something like, "Please make sure to select the correct tee location when entering your scores. If you have any questions, contact a member of the Golf Shop staff for assistance.”
