Happy 203rd Birth Anniversary St. John Bosco, the Father, Teacher and Friend of the Young
from the DBTI Family!
The Salesian Family all over the world celebrates this year, the 203rd anniversary of Don Bosco’s
birth, a saint known for his dedication tothe education of the poor and
the marginalized youth.
Don Bosco Technological Institute rejoices and thanks the Lord and Mary Help of Christians for the
gift of Don Bosco to the Church. It is through him that our ‘Competence and Character’ are moulded through
his pedagogical system known as the ‘Preventive System’- his most valuable contribution
to education and youth ministry.
Don Bosco was very much convinced of the spirituality of St. Francis of Sales who said “a spoonful of honey attracts more flies than a
barrel of vinegar”. Based on this adage, Don Bosco gave
his important legacy of educating the young through
reason, religion and loving kindness.
Through the first pillar of ‘Reason’, we at DBTI are being educated through the guided policies and principles in the
academic and technical know-how. As an independent
tertiary institution in the country, DBTI educates us through the various technologies such as in
Automotive Technology, Electrical,
Electronics and Communication,
Information Technology, Instrumentation, Metal Fabrication and Welding and Maintenance Fitting
and Machining. DBTI helps us to be future educators
and technical trainers in the industrial sector of our
country.
Through the second pillar based on ‘Religion’, we
practice daily our faith. Our active involvement in morning assemblies,
homeroom periods with class patrons and matrons, our
animation of liturgical activities at the Shrine of Mary Help of Christians,
the presence of the Salesians to avail the Sacraments, and our
reverence to other Christian faith are
but a few of the many ways DBTI
forms us to be ‘good Christians and
honest citizens.’
Through the third pillar of ‘Loving Kindness’, we extend
our love and pastoral care with the neighbouring
communities. As servant leaders, our assistance in the
Sunday Oratory at the gymnasium, the Turanguappeal during the Lenten
season,
leadership in the Eucharistic animation in some areas in
Port Moresby, the Blood Drive are some of the
activities that we engage into spread out the
Salesian family spirit. Don Bosco knew that ‘Love’
alone has a transforming power in the life of the youth.
As we commemorate the 203rd
anniversary of Don Bosco’s birth, students and staff at DBTI
prepare a week-long celebration. Along with the Strenna ‘The Art
of Listening and Accompaniment.’ It commenced
on August 11th with a Family Day. Subsequently other
activities like the two-day Sports Festival,
Trade Skills competition, Open House for Secondary school students, Bosco Got
Talent, Past Pupils’ Day and Cultural Show are our ways to pay tribute to our
dear Father Bosco who wishes us to be friends of
God.
Through these festivities may we renew our faithfulness to his
spirit, be servant leaders, be responsible young men and
women and live fervently the Gospel values as Don Bosco,
our Father, Teacher and Friend once lived! Thank you and
Happy 203rd Birthday St. John Bosco!
Viva Don Bosco!
