My dearest chapter Presidents, chapter officers; and my brothers from all our AHEPA chapters located across New York State.
My name is George Zouvelos, and I am the President of the AHEPA Hermes Chapter No. 186, now located in Astoria, Queens New York. It is my honor to write to you today, as we are privileged after decades, been given the honor and responsibility to once again host our annual New York Empire State District Six Convention (the 83rd Annual), right here in Astoria, the cradle of our Hellenic diaspora, and Hellenism in the United States.
This letter is not an obligatory one, or one required to be added as one of the forms contained herein for the mailing of convention related materials. However, I was compelled to reach-out across the state and personally invite all to Astoria the weekend of June 7th– 9th in order to participate in the 2019 AHEPA Family 83rd Annual District Convention. It is time for all of us—whoever it may be- and in the spirit of our ancient Hellenic ideals, and our American Hellenic Order, to put any differences aside, moving forward; and gather in order to democratically elect our next District Lodge, as is our annual constitutional and bylaw duty, and obligation. We are only as strong as the sum of our parts, and besides our local chapter meetings and events, we join together annually in peace and brotherhood to settle what needs to be settled; and also to elect the leadership of our District Lodge that will carry us into 2020, and beyond. Please fill out the attached forms, proudly appoint your delegates and alternates; and, send in your registration; while kindly supporting us with your chapter, individual, and or private business ad for our Convention print journal. I implore all to make the best effort as AHEPA in New York is growing stronger than ever providing the Hellenic educational international beacon of light and hope for all others across the world to see and follow. Remember, Jesus said on the Sermon on the Mount that, in Matthew 5-14. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Through each of us let AHEPA always shine bright as a city high on a hill in unity, and continue to carry the bright light of Hellenism across the state, through our AHEPA Chapters, and for all across the world to witness. March 18, 2019 -- Astoria, New York – The AHEPA Hermes Ch. 186 of Astoria, New York President, and past District 6 Marshal George Zouvelos; and, the Daughter of Penelope Ilion Ch. 135 President Mary Stell proudly announce that the two chapters have been unanimously chosen, by each respective AHEPA Family District Lodge, to host the 83rd Annual 2019 AHEPA Family New York State District 6 convention to take place in Astoria, New York City. Commencing on Friday June 7th, 8th, through Sunday 9th 2019 all New York State AHEPA, Daughters of Penelope, Sons of Pericles and Maids of Athena chapters are cordially invited to send their guests, representatives, voting delegates and alternates to the AHEPA Family Empire District 6 Convention and Scholarship Awards festivities. Starting on Friday June 7th the convention commences with an evening with a Sons and Maids over 21 Social at Anable Basin Sailing Bar & Grill 4-40 44th Dr. Long Island City, NY 11101. Otherwise, the events, regular business, scholarship, other awards; and, luncheon will take place at the Petros G. Petrides Cultural Center school auditorium of the Cathedral of Saint Demetrios school of Astoria, located at 30-03 30th Drive Astoria, New York 11102. On Saturday morning June 8th 2019 at 8:15 AM registration for the regular AHEPA Family D6 convention official business will commence. “We are honored to include among the events and festivities an event that can be attended by the news media which include a luncheon hosted by the Daughters of Penelope ILion Ch. 135 which will take place on Saturday June 8, 2019 at noon,” stated Mary Stell President of the co-hosting Daughters of Penelope, ILion Ch. 135.
