Is it cloudy in London or Manchester today? What is surprising about the weather today? Is Adam worried about climate change? What will happen to some countries if they become hotter?
Hi there! Thanks for all your emails about the hot weather.
I called Ellie yesterday to have a chat about her email.
Adam What’s the weather like in London today, Ellie?Ellie Um, it’s hot, but it’s very cloudy. I think there’ll be a
storm this evening.Adam Really? It’s sunny in Manchester. It’s a beautiful day.Ellie But the weather forecast says it’ll rain everywhere
tomorrow!Adam Oh, fantastic! But seriously, Ellie, what’s happening
to our weather? It’s October and the temperature is 22°C.
Ellie Well, my teacher says the climate is getting warmer. Adam Ah, right, global warming. But I don’t believe in that.Ellie Well, a lot of scientists believe that the environment
is changing. In the future we may have longer summers and there won’t be much rain…
Adam Sounds good to me.Ellie No, Adam, it’s bad! If it doesn’t rain, things won’t grow.Adam But they grow things in hot countries … we’ll have
lemon trees in the garden!Ellie Think about it. The climate in Britain may be better,
but countries that are hot now might become deserts!
Well, what do you think? Do you agree with Ellie? Will the
climate get warmer? And will that be good or bad? Write
and tell me your opinions!

I’ve won a competition … and yesterday I tried zorbing! Have
you ever heard of zorbing? No? Well, to be honest, I didn’t know
what it was before last Friday. I spoke to Mike from the Zorbing
Centre in Devon…
Adam What is zorbing, Mike? I’ve never heard of it.Mike It’s an exciting new sport. You get into a big plastic ball and
roll down a hill.Adam What?! But that’s crazy! And dangerous! Have you ever had
an accident in a zorb?Mike No, I haven’t. It isn’t dangerous at all. It’s great fun!Adam Did you invent it?Mike No, I didn’t. The idea comes from New Zealand.Adam Have you ever been to New Zealand?Mike Yes, I have. Zorbing is very popular with young people there. Adam Right. Do people need special clothes for zorbing?Mike Not really. A pair of shorts and a t-shirt. Or a swimming
costume if you want to try hydro-zorbing.Adam What’s hydro-zorbing?Mike It’s the same as zorbing, but we put some water into the
zorb. It’s a bit like a washing machine!Adam What?! You guys are nuts!
Well, now I’ve tried zorbing! And it really is fantastic! I want to
do other exciting things now. I’ve never done a bungee jump,
for example, and I haven’t ridden a horse … What about you?

Your best friend? A teacher? Or would you prefer to talk to
someone you don’t know, like Jenny Richardson? She’s a
teenage agony aunt and she’s got her own radio programme
called Teenhelp. I went to meet Jenny and listened to her
while she was answering some calls.
Jenny Hi guys. My name’s Jenny and this is Teenhelp. I’m here to talk about your problems. We’ve got Kim on the line. Hi Kim, how can I help you?
Kim Hello, Jenny. I’ve got a problem at school. There’s a girl in my class who bullies me.
Jenny Oh dear! What does she do?Kim She makes fun of me and she calls me horrible names.Jenny Have you spoken to anyone about this? Kim No, I haven’t. And now I don’t want to go to school. I
tell my mum that I’ve got a headache or a stomach ache because I want to stay at home.
Jenny You shouldn’t lie to your mum and you shouldn’t miss school.
Kim I know. I hate lying to my mum.Jenny You should tell your mum what’s happening. And if I were
you, I’d speak to a teacher, too. Is there a teacher that you particularly like?
Kim Yes … the History teacher. Jenny Why don’t you talk to your mum first? Then you and your
mum can talk to your teacher. Kim That’s a great idea. Thanks, Jenny. I feel better already.
I think Jenny’s advice was excellent. I hope Kim follows it!

This job’s got some cool perks! Last week I went to
‘Generation Tech’, a technology fair for teenagers. It was
sponsored by The Gazette newspaper so I got a free ticket!
The fair was held in the O2 Arena in London and it was my
idea of paradise – even the name badges were digital! My
favourite thing was the stand where the high-tech gadgets
were displayed. I talked to the stand organiser, Kelly, about
some of them.
Adam Where do all these gadgets come from?Kelly Well, a lot of them are made in the USA.Adam And where are they sold?
Kelly They’re usually sold on the Internet. Nearly all teenagers buy things online, nowadays.
Adam What are the most popular things this year? Kelly Well, we’ve sold a lot of solar rucksacks and pen
scanners. Adam Solar rucksacks? What are they?Kelly They’re rucksacks with solar panels on the front. They
can generate power and that’s used for the batteries in mobile phones and MP3 players.
Adam Wow! That’s so cool! And how do pen scanners work?Kelly Oh, they’re great things! They’re electronic note
takers. They read texts and the information is stored in their memories. Then the texts are transferred to a computer via a USB pen.
Well, I couldn’t resist the pen scanner! Now I’ll never have
to rewrite my notes! I can’t wait to go to school!

We see adverts on TV, at the cinema, on posters, on web
pages, in the newspaper and on buses – everywhere in
fact! But yesterday I saw an advert in a very strange place
– on a dog!
I was walking through the park with my friend Hayley
when we saw a green and red dog! Hayley said it was a
new type of advert. She told me it was called a ‘dogvert’!
(I’m not kidding!) I wanted to investigate so I spoke to Bill
Peterson, the man behind the idea.
Adam Hi Bill. Yesterday I saw one of your dogverts…Bill Oh, good! Which one did you see? Adam Um … well, the dog was green and red – my friend
said it was advertising a mobile phone company.Bill Oh, right. What did you think of it?Adam Um … well, it was certainly original! Where did you
get the idea from?Bill I saw some painted cows in the USA. They were
advertising something and I thought it was a great idea – a walking poster!
Adam So, you transferred the idea to dogs.Bill Yes, but first I talked to Sheila Wilson. She’s done a lot
of animal advertising in the USA. She told me that the idea was really popular there.
Adam Do you think dogverts will become popular in the UK? Bill Yes, I think so!
Bill said dogverts would become popular here, but I’m not
sure. A lot of people in the UK think animal advertising is
cruel. Bill said it didn’t hurt the dogs and he told me the
owners could remove the colour easily with shampoo.
Hayley said she was going to offer her dog to an
advertising company – she thinks it’s easy money! What
do you think? Is animal advertising cruel?
