Gloucester City Day Celebrations Saturday, June 2
The Highland Park Church of God is teaming up with the
Epiphany Church of Gloucester City to make this day successful and to share the love of Christ with our neighbors.
Your help is needed! We are looking for help with set-up, pretzel sales (to benefit our youth trip to IYC), a VBS table and craft, a remote control car race as well as with clean-up. If you can help in any way, please contact the church office
and sign the sheet in the Narthex!
Dear Church Family and Friends, When I watched my first episode of Star Trek on television, I
was hooked. My favorite class in high school English was an
elective class where we read science fiction novels like The
Martian Chronicles. I have always been fascinated by the new discoveries that space
exploration might bring to our world. In one of the Star Trek movies, The
Undiscovered Country, the possibility of the United Federation of Planets and the
Klingon Empire working cooperatively to explore the galaxy was the theme. Many
opposing and evil forces within both groups worked to undermine the effort, but in the
end the two groups aligned together for their mutual benefit. This new reality was the
undiscovered country – breaking new ground together. As I watch the Epiphany
Church grow and expand in its ministries in Gloucester City, I thought back to the
founders of the Church of God in Gloucester City – breaking new ground for the
Kingdom of God. It is important that we continue in that same hunger or zeal to move
into the new and undiscovered future. That motivation must continue to drive our
congregation’s ministry and missional efforts in the community and around the world
as well. As we enter the summer, I ask you to enter into a season of prayer that the
Lord will show our congregation and its leadership those “undiscovered” opportunities
to reach out beyond our walls to share the love of the Lord Jesus Christ in meaningful
and transforming ways. I really delight in the enthusiasm and joy that I see on Pastor
Joe Marlin’s face when new ground is broken for the Kingdom of God in our
community by his congregation. Let us pray together that Jesus will show us new
opportunities for our congregation as well.
Interceding,
Pastor Bill

Grief Share Thursdays 7:00-9:00 p.m.
Thru July 5
Have you lost a loved one, a close friend, or a child? Do you need support in dealing with the loss of someone you love? Losing someone special, a family member or a close friend, can be difficult. The support of others on a similar journey can bring comfort, nurture, healing. We invite you to a 13-week journey called “Grief Share.” The group is meeting in the fellowship hall Thursday evenings at 7:00 PM. It began on April 5, but you are always welcome to jump in at any time. There is no cost to participate. Each week your GriefShare group will watch a video seminar featuring top experts on grief and recovery subjects. After viewing the video, group members will spend time, discussing what was presented in that week’s video seminar and what is going on in our lives. During the week you will have the opportunity to use your workbook for further personal study of the grieving process and to help sort out your emotions through journaling. GriefShare is a nationally recognized program. More information about this program can be found at their website (www.griefshare.org). Please contact Pastor Deb or Don Conner if you are interested in participating. You are cared about and you are loved. We would like to help you through this difficult time.
Wednesday, June 6 6:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall
As another session of Embrace Grace comes to a close, we would like to celebrate with a young mother who chose love. There will be a shower on Wednesday, June 6, at 6:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall. If you can help by making a pan of ziti, making a salad, bringing rolls or beverages, please sign the sheet in the Narthex. Please also sign the sheet if you plan to attend. We are blessed to have a part-nership in this ministry with the ladies of St. Mary’s church. Thanks to those la-dies, all gifts have been purchased!! Join together and celebrate this new little one!

FAITH FACTORY! Beginning Sunday, July 15, 2018
In our effort to grow our outreach to children and families, we are designing a new educational program for our children. What has for years been our children’s Sunday School program at 9:30 a.m. will move to “Faith Factory” and will take place during the Sunday morning worship service much like the current Super Church program. Faith Factory will be a time of worship and teaching to build children’s faith in a God who sees them, knows them, loves them and has a good plan for them. The adult Sunday School class has been our biggest class and we are NOT changing that. The adult class will continue to “build their faith” Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. (There will be supervision available for children who come with adults attending class at 9:30.) The junior high and senior high youth will be in service and will receive their “faith building” through a small group Bible study under the youth ministry program. The Sunday morning schedule will be as follows: 9:30 a.m. – Adult class meets in fellowship hall. 11:00 a.m. – Worship for all ages begins. Nursery available for children infant – 4 years old. 11:15 a.m. – Children K – 6th grades will be dismissed to the FAITH FACTORY! 3:00-5:00 – Youth Bible Study / Youth Fellowship A great deal of prayer and planning has gone into making this change. Our hope is that this schedule will make it easier for families to come out on Sunday mornings and worship and learn together. We are looking for leaders, assistants and help with skits from those of you with gifts in acting! If you are interested in participating in this exciting new endeavor, please talk to Pastor Deb TODAY!!!

Why are we giving to Puerto Rico again? The devastation of the hurricanes through Puerto Rico is still felt today. With a mass
exodus from Puerto Rico churches have closed, businesses have shut down and the
ability to rebuild has been stalled. Without properly securing structures and rebuilding
sustainability facilities, more loss will be incurred in the 2018 hurricane season. Our
brothers and sisters need our help!
What’s needed? - Work Teams (or individuals)
- Funds for Rebuilding Projects
- Home Depot Gift Cards
- PRAYER, PRAYER, PRAYER
Where do we give? Through your local church! The rally date for collection is June 3rd (June 1st is the start
of hurricane season)! Checks can be made payable to the Highland Park Church of God (PR Trip in memo) and placed in the offering plate. Special envelopes will be in your bulletins on May 27 and June 3rd.
Who do we contact? See Don Conner for details. This missions trip will be June 23 through June 30.
