What is Hydropower? It is power/electricity that is generated
when water behind a dam is allowed to pass through, causing a series of events to occur that lead to the production of electricity.
Advantages of hydropower:
No pollutants!Compared to : Nuclear Power Plant.
:Thermal Power Plant
Say no to greenhouse gases
Saving natural resources
COAL
A predictable renewable source of energy
Dams as a water reservoir
Store huge amount of water.Save water not to waste in sea or ocean.Safeguard of supply of water all seasons.
Disadvantages of hydroelectric powerEmission of methane and carbon dioxide-
Disturbance of habitatArea: Flooded with water.
Plant : Destroyed due to flooded area.
Relocation: Human, animals and birds etc.
Installation costs
Cost Involves -:Building/Construction of dam.
:Instaillation of Turbines.
: Labour/Human Capital.
: Maintenance Cost
Fish killing
By - : Nitrogen reactions
: Damage the Reproduction of fishes
Limited useOnly those area where: -
: Area with heavy rainfall.: Continuous natural Source.: Huge Reservoirs of water
