The landscape gardeners who laid outthe grounds have left its natural beau ¬

ty untouched where possible TallDougiass firs swing their rugged limbsnext to ornately classic architectural-art There is but one large formal gar¬

den with sundials spherical mirrors andset geometrical beds Elsewhere aboutthe grounds flowers shrubs and treesbeautifully varied have been permitted-to grow in riotous profusion and In realhomey fashion The usual freak flow-

beds with names and designs are notpresent In their places are banks ofnatural flowers which line the walksand buildings There are spouting foun ¬

tains and tumbling cascades but thewhole is a studied disarrangement andpart of a caretullyprepared scheme of

Jetoration Simplicity and purity havebeen aimed at by the artists with theresult that the visitor gasps and rubshis eyes at the wonderful beauty burst-ing

suddenly upon him after passingthe gates

Grouping of BuildingsThe arrangement of the buildings and

their grouping is also calculated toplease The center of the scheme isthe United States government buildingwhich is the largest and most ornate ithas yet erected at any fair and in front-of this ig the graceful Alaska monu ¬

The Utah Building-Utah is the only intermountain state

¬

disapproval of the curiouspueblo structure as calculated to labelthe state as a curiosity rather than tocall attention to her position as an en-terprising
