MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS If you haven’t renewed your membership yet, your gate card (if applicable) has been de-activated. All membership renewals can be handled a couple different ways: 1) online through your account on our website, 2) mail in (mail to PO Box 6755, Lincoln, NE 68506), or 3) in person during our office hours (if outside of office hours, please contact us at 402.474.6555). UNLESS PRIOR PLANS HAVE BEEN MADE WITH THE MANAGERS OR DURING OFFICE HOURS, PLEASE do not come out to the facilities with your renewal and expect your gate card to be turned back on that day.
HIGHWAY CLEAN UP – Saturday, May 5 Due to terrible weather conditions on our April date, we have rescheduled our Bi-Annual Highway Cleanup to Saturday, May 5. We will begin by meeting in the parking lot, beginning at 9:30 a.m. until we are finished with our stretch of Highway 2. This is a project our club has committed to do twice a year in conjunction with the Adopt-A-Highway Program. It is only two miles of the highway right of way and takes normally 2-3 hours to complete. The more volunteers we have, the quicker it’ll be done! Lunch will be provided following in the clubhouse. May Rifle/Pistol Ranges Work Day We have projects around the rifle/pistol ranges that we would like to get taken care of and so some work days have been established. Our goal is to have these work days two days a month, with one being set on the fourth Thursdays of each month. The second date will be established soon, but we need to find some days that they don’t mess with the other events/matches. The next scheduled day will be Thursday, May 24th, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. For more information, please contact our Rifle/Pistol/Safety Chair, Dave Morgan, at [email protected] or 402.610.1595. Thank you all who volunteer out here!

Board of Director Nominations
The annual meeting/ BoD elections is coming up. If you or anyone you know is inter-ested serving your club by being on the BoD, let anyone on the Board know and send us your resume. Summer Open Trap Days/Times Our Lincoln IKEs will have some open times for non-members and members alike to enjoy trap shooting! Beginning in June, we have open times on Fridays and Saturdays. Watch our CLUB CALENDAR on our website for these days and times. Corrugated Cardboard All clean and dry corrugated cardboard must be recycled starting April 1, 2018, as per Municipal Code 8.32.040. Therefore, please break down/flatten all boxes and place them in the dumpsters by the Green Rock House (just west of the clubhouse) or by Trap #5. This includes the blue rock boxes from each of the Trap houses. As required with all our current trap members who use/have access to the traps; when you are done shooting, the carousel needs to be filled as before you used it and then the blue rock boxes need to be recycled in these noted dumpsters; NOT in the trash barrels near each trap or the dumpster by the clubhouse. If you have any questions, please let Craig or Natalie know and they are happy to help. THANK YOU FOR HELPING KEEP OUR TRAP HOUSES CLEAN AND TRAP FEES LOW! Members Shooting Rules – PLEASE NOTE Rules highlight: With summer upon us, a reminder that a member must be present when any guest is shooting. This includes the children of the members. Members are allowed to bring any children age 18 and under with no additional fees or guest passes. Members are also now allowed to bring THEIR children up to the age of 26 to shoot with no addition fees (children of members still have to pay for the regular trap fee of $4 per round of 25 rocks). That child is NOT allowed to come to the range and shoot without the registered member. Please help our club to make sure these rules are being followed. Thank you.
The Izaak Walton Hunter Education Group has just posted on line three Hunter Education Classes for this fall. The first two will be combination Firearm and Bow Hunter Education Classes in August and September. This is the first time we have offered combina-tion Classes and we hope for a good turn out. The Third one will be a Firearm Education Class in October just before deer hunting in November. In August we will also put on a Hunt Safe class. Please spread the word that we will be having Hunter Education Classes so that we can have maximum participation. I would like to thank everyone who helps make it possible to put on the classes and would invite anyone who has an interest in helping. Curt Evans
Volunteers Needed If you have any desires to pass on the shooting or fishing skills you have acquired, put June 23 on your calendar. On that day we will have a crowd of youngsters searching for skills that you can help produce. Hours will be 8:30 till 2PM and we will have lunch provided. We hope to offer training in shotgun, archery, .22 rifle and master angler fishing in Garber lake. If you can help contact John W. or Wes S. and get on the list.

score and a minimum of 18 yards. Shooting ahead and make-ups will be allowed based on time constraints and
awards are based on individual competition.

We are to going to have the opportunity to meet with the executive director of the IKEs on May
23.rd.
Scott Kovarovics will be participating in the national conference on R3 needs and planning which is to be hosted by
our NGPC here in town on May 22/23 which is over at noon. He intends to meet with some Fremont Ikes in the
afternoon of the 23 and will be staying overnight again in Lincoln to fly out the next morning.
We have suggested that he have dinner Wed evening here Lincoln and we could have an informal dialogue at that
time with him. I have agreed to do so and invite anyone of our organization that might like to join us. Time and
place is still to be decided but could be a great opportunity to get to impart our desires and thoughts about the IKEs
and hear a response from the boss.
Let me know.

Drop Your Gun at the Range? Let It Fall.
by Sheriff Jim Wilson - Friday, April 20, 2018
You may have heard recently of a few examples
where, under extremely narrow circumstances, a
particular model of handgun will discharge if
dropped. This may tempt gun owners to try
catching their handgun if it falls from their
hands. To do so would be a dangerous mistake,
as the odds of tripping the trigger during a
desperate grab are far greater than a dropped gun
hitting in exactly the right spot to go off.
A few years ago, a California officer dropped
her gun during department qualifications. The pistol discharged, and the officer was killed.
Reconstruction of the incident revealed that this officer had tried to grab the gun as it fell and
unintentionally tripped the trigger.
Just recently, a reader told me about being present when a person dropped a striker-fired semi-automatic
handgun with an integrated trigger safety and the gun went off, hitting the individual in the leg. While
there is not a lot of information about this incident, my first thought was that the person had grabbed at
the gun as it fell and tripped the trigger.
This sort of negligent discharge can happen with any handgun. It occurs when any type of handgun is
dropped with the hammer cocked and no safeties engaged. It could happen with several of the single-
action autos, any DA/SA auto or any revolver with an exposed hammer.
Throughout our lives, whenever we drop something, it is a natural response to try to catch it before it
hits the ground or floor. We learned this response as children because we didn’t want to get in trouble
for breaking a glass or bottle. Or we simply didn’t want to look as clumsy as we obviously were. It is,
however, a real mistake when the object that we have dropped is a loaded handgun.
Long ago, we learned to warn students about this. It is, or should be, an integral part of the safety
lecture. We begin by reminding them of the four safety rules. Then we discuss administrative rules of
the class and range – Don’t load until instructed to – Don’t draw your gun until instructed to – if you
drop anything, especially your gun – just let it fall.
It is possible that a handgun, any handgun, could discharge when it is dropped on a hard surface. It is
possible, but not probable. In this case, it is far more probable that a discharge will result if we try to
catch the gun in flight. It all happens in a millisecond, and we can’t really be sure where our fingers are
going or what they are doing.
For your safety and that of others around you, this should be an iron-clad rule: If you drop the gun, just
let it fall.
