In SandwichSandwich is a town rich in history and its Annual Holly Days events bring out the best in the town and its many businesses that call it home. There’s really nothing quite like a town that
fully embraces what makes the Holiday season special-town-wide gathering, Community Caroling, Christmas Tree lighting, Holiday Home Tours, even a Holiday Cookie Stroll. What can be better than all that and all in one town!
Sandwich is the place to be for Holly Days 2016 and we have a lot of returning family events as well as a few new ones to kick off this year.
The Shop Small Saturday kicks it all off on Saturday, Nov. 26th with the ever-popular Cookie Stroll taking place on Dec. 10th. While it’s nice to think of supporting local
businesses on that Saturday, that is something we need to focus on doing all year long.
Thanks to American Legion Post 188 of Sandwich for the Littlest Christmas Tree event taking place on Sunday, Nov. 27 at 5pm on the Shawme Pond.
The Community Carol Sing will take place on Friday, Dec. 2th at 7pm at the First Church of Christ, sponsored by the Belfry Inn & Bistro. After seeing such an out-pouring of
community members, it has become such a feel-good event over the years.
The Home Tour, sponsored by Cape Cod Five, is alive and well this year, featuring a number of great homes to be seen on Sunday, Dec. 11th and this year, with a Trolley Ride to get
Home Tour visitors around town more easily, thanks to Kinlin Grover Real Estate. During the Home Tours, Cape Cod Chorale’s “Mostly Dickens Carolers” Quartet will be singing
Christmas Carols for the Home Tours from 12pm to 2pm.
Finally, I want to thank all of the Holly Days volunteers, especially Donna Kutil of Scenic Roots and Kirby Holmes from Eastern Bank who helped to keep this going because they
knew it was that special.
So plan to join us for some or all of the Holly Days events. It’s certainly been a long year but we are ending it all on a high note, and together, which is the
most important thing of all.

For those who haven’t seen the work going on at the Sandwich Marina over the last year, you’re missing out on some wonder-ful new developments that will help Sand-wich grow in the long and short-terms. The town has invested in the construction of a new, 3,700-square-foot Harbor-master’s office-a full-time, year-round office off Freezer Road set to be open this year. The town’s newest restaurant-the Fishermen’s View Seafood Market & Restaurant opened in 2016 to much success. Our 2016 Holly
Days glass ornament-the “buoy” pays homage to Sandwich’s
nautical past and future as we look forward to many more things coming from our beautiful marina and the “Buoys” that dot its landscape.
Sandwich is rich in history and working museums, a
town that glass built after all, so don’t miss out on this
beautiful, hand blown glass orna-ment. Each ornament, sponsored by the Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod, was blown at the McDermott Glass Studio and each is numbered and engraved by the artist. Cost is $30.
Holiday lights have become a very big tradition, the bigger the better, and
Sandwich is no exception. Sandwich is the birthplace and home of a unique family of GIANT light sculptures that appear during the Holiday season.
The majority of the GIANTS are sponsored by local businesses. They represent and highlight what these businesses are.
An example of this is the first GIANT, which was born in 1998, by its creator
Michael Magyar from The Glass Studio on Cape Cod, in East Sandwich. Moto-San the Glassblower stands as tall as the Glass Studio building where he is
displayed roadside, with hundreds of lights covering his steel rebar skeleton.
Since that first year the number of GIANTS have grown. They have expanded down 6A, spill onto Main St and stand tall on the backroads of Sandwich, as well
as a few more sprinkled in other towns down Cape, bringing the total to over 40 GIANTS.
To follow the GIANTS around Sandwich, turn your Holly Days Booklet to the center map on pages 20 -21 and plan out your route to view the GIANTS before
they are put to bed until the next holiday season.

Shopping locally this holiday season will not only fill your sleigh with perfect gifts,
you’ll be helping the Sandwich economy and could win a huge shopping spree. Our local businesses are promoting a “Holiday Shopping Challenge” aimed at
boosting foot traffic and the festive spirit of local shopping.
Go to www.sandwichhollydays.com and download a map showing participating
businesses. Maps will also be available at all participating businesses, both retail stores and service providers, such as salons, restaurants and museums.
There is no requirement to spend, but to complete the Challenge, you do have to “pop in” and say hello! The Holiday Shopping Challenge runs from
Friday, November 25th through Wednesday, December 14th.

Rudolf, the red-nosed reindeer
had a very shiny nose. And if you ever saw him,
you would even say it glows. All of the other reindeer
used to laugh andcall him names.
They never let poor Rudolfplay in any reindeer games.
Then one foggy Christmas eveSanta came to say:
“Rudolf with your nose so bright, won’t you guide my
sleigh tonight?” Then all the reindeer loved himas they shouted out with glee:
“Rudolf the red-nosed reindeer, you’ll go down in history!”
