Thrust...thisiswhereitstarts!Engineersexplainthatthrustisoneofseveralforcesinamag-drivepumpanditcanbeverydestructive.Whenyouthinkofapump,thelargestcauseofforceisfromtheverythingyouwantthepumptodo,makepressure.Whenengineersseepressure,theyseeitasaForce,whichisPressurexArea(F=PxA).WhenINNOMAGlookedattheinsideofapump,wesawalotofunusedpressureandunusedareasthatcouldsolvea50yearproblem!
Thepicture to theupper left corner showswhat INNOMAG created andpatented.ThewhitearrowsshowthepaththatsomeofyourliquidwilltakewhenitgoesthroughtheTB-magpump.Theideatokeepinmindatalltimesisthathighpressure(coloredred) will always find lowpressure(coloredyel-low). As the pump housing is filled with the pressurized liquid, some of the liquid will go around to the back side of the impeller and passthruthebackclearancering set (picture upper right side). This area is fixed and creates a constant, restricting pressure drop (red colorchangingtogreen color).Fromhere,theliquidwillpassovertheimpeller(themagnetassembly)andgoaroundtotheimpellerbackend(balancing pressure).Atthispoint,itwilltravelthroughthecenteroftheimpeller(green area again) and find thesuction(thelowpressurearea).Why?High pressurewillalwaysgo to low pressure(justliketheballoon)!
Looking at the picture located just above, we find that a way to thrustbalancetheimpelleristosimplycombinethesuctionpressureandthepressureonthefrontoftheimpellertogoagainstthepressure(andthrust)fromthebackoftheimpeller(thegreenarea).Iftheimpellermovesforwardduetothrust(picturelowerleftcorner)anopeningcontrolledbytheimpellerbecomeslargerandallowsmoreliquidtoleavethegreenarea,directlylower-ingthethrustandpressure.Iftoomuchthrustorpressureislost,theimpellerwillmovebackward,closingtheopening(picturelowerrightcorner)causingthepressureorthrustinthegreenareatodirectlyincreaseagainstthesuctionandfrontimpellerpressures.
