BeforeusingyourSunbeamPieMagicforthefirsttime,thenon-stickplatesmustbeseasonedtoprotectthenon-sticksurface.
Plugthepowercordintoa230/240voltpoweroutletandturnthepowerON.Preheatthepiemakerfor5minutes.Seasontheplatesbyapplyingathincoatofcookingoilontothesurfaceandrubinwithpapertowel.
Alternativelyaddoiltopapertowelandruboverthecookingplates.
Afterthisinitialseasoning,thereisnoneedtoseasontheplatesaftereachuseasthepastryleavestheplatesslightlyseasoned.
Note:WhenusingyourSunbeamPieMagicforthefirsttime,youmaynoticeafinesmokehazebeingemitted.Thisisnormalandisduetotheinitialheatingoftheinternalcomponents.

Youwillbeamazedatthevarietyofpiesyoucanmake-chicken,beef,pork,vegetableandseafoodpies;aswellasfruitandsweetpies.
Youcanalsouseittoheatupfrozenandthawed,cookedpies.
WithyourSunbeamPieMagic,youcanturnanyingredients,left-oversorcannedfoodintodeliciouspies–greatforappetisers,meals,desserts,supperorsnacks.

HeadingMaking pies in your Sunbeam Pie Magic®
What type of pastry can be used? Thereisawideselectionofreadyrolledpastryavailableinyoursupermarketfreezer,suchasshortcrust,puff,butterpuffandwholemealpastry.Thesepastriesallgivegreatresultsandarehandytokeepinyourfreezer.
Duetothehighfatcontentinpastrytheremaybesomeoilseepagefromthepiesduringthecookingprocess.Thisdoesnotaffectthequalityofthepies.
Therefore we recommend using Light Puff Pastry for the top combined with a Light Shortcrust Pastry for the base.
Foramorebutterytasteusebutterpuffpastryforyourpastrytopcombinedwithashortcrustpastryforyourbase.Thiscombinationisidealfordesserts.Homemadepastrycanalsobeused.
PreheatthePieMagicfor5minutesuntilreadylightisilluminated.Defrostyourfrozen,readyrolledpastrywhilepreparingyourpies.
Note:TheWarmUpandReadylightsarethermostaticallycontolledandwillcycleduringcookingtoensurethatthecorrecttemperatureisgained.
Cutting the pastry.Usethespecialpiecutterprovidedtocutthepastrytopsandbasesforyourpies.Thesmallcutterisforthetopandthelargecutterisforthebase.SeeFigure1.
Tocutyourpastrypieces,positionthecutteronaflatsheetofpastryandcutbypressingdownintothepastry.Ensurethecutissmootharoundtheedges.
Note:Forbestresults,frozenpastryshouldbeusedassoonasitisjustthawed.
Forming the pastry.Gentlyplacethepastrybaseinthepreheatedpiemaker.Becarefulasthepiemakerwillbehot.Quicklyoverlapthepastryslitstoensuretheyjoinproperlyuntilapastrybaseisformed.Seefigure2andfigure3.

Adding the filling.Anyingredientsyouhaveinyourkitchen,left-oversandcannedfoodmaketemptingpiefillings.
Pre-cookyourpiefillings,particularlyifusingfreshmeatorvegetables.Ingredientssuchasfruitandcannedfoodcanbeusedwithoutpre-cooking.
Ensureallingredientsarecutintosmallandevenpiecestoallowthemtoheatthrough.
Note:Donotuseliquidingredientssuchassauces,graviesandcustardsontheirownorinlargeamountsastheywilloverflowandmakethepastrysoggy.Alwayscombinewithsolidingredients.Alsodonotusehotfillingsasthepastrybasewillbecomesoggy.
Spoonyourpre-cooked,cooledfillingintothepastrybase.Asageneralrule,use½cupoffillingfortraditionalsizepiesand2cupsoffillingforthefamilypie.Donotoverfill.
Cooking the pies.
Placethepastrytopsoverthefillingandclosethelid.Cookthepiesforapproximately12-15minutesfortraditionalsizepiesand15-18minutesforthefamilypie.Ifyoupreferextrabrowning,werecommendyoucookforanextra2-4minutes.
Carefully wipe off oil after each batch of pies, prior to making your next batch. This will improve the cooking quality and prevent excess oil.
Tip:Fruitorvegetablefillingswon’ttakeaslongtoheatandcookthroughasmeatfillings.
Ifplanningtofreeze,onlycookpiesfortheminimumcookingtime.Allowtocoolonwireracksbeforefreezinginairtightbags.
Note:Duringcookingyoumaynoticeawhistlingsound.Thisisduetosteamescapingfromthepies.
Removeyourpiesusingaplasticspatula.DO NOT USE METAL UTENSILS AS THESE WILL SCRATCH THE NON-STICK SURFACE. Wipetheplatescleanaftermakingeachpie.
Using left-over pastry.
Makemorepies,garnishesanddecorations withtheleft-overpastry.
Tomakegarnishesanddecorations,cutthepastryintoanyshape,suchasleaves.
Placetheshapeonthepastrytopbefore closingthelid.
Note:Itisrecommendedthatonlyshortcrustreadyrolledpastrybere-rolled.Keepthepastrycoveredtopreventdrying andcracking.
Pre-cutting pastry. Pastrycanbepre-cutandstoredinthefreezersothatanyonecanmakepiesattheirconvenience.Aftercuttingthepastry,separateeachpiecewithalayerofplastic.Covercompletelywithplasticandreturntothefreezer.

Defrosting.Roomtemperature:pieswilldefrostinapproximately1hour.
Microwaveoven(700W):defrosteachpieforapproximately5minutesondefrostsetting.
Reheating.Pie maker:Preheatthepiemakerfor5minutes(oruntiltheorangelightturnstogreen).
Thawedpies–heatforapproximately 12-15minutesfortraditionalsizepiesandapproximately15-18forfamilysizepies.
Frozenpies-heatforapproximately 30minutesfortraditionalsizepiesandapproximately40minutesforfamilysizepies.
Oven: Preheatovento180ºC.
Frozenpies–heatfor40-45minutes.
Thawedpies–heatfor15-20minutes.

To clean the non-stick plates.Wipeovertheplateswithadampenedcloth.
To clean the exterior.Wipeoverwithadampenedclothandpolishwithasoftdrycloth.
To clean cooked on stains.Shouldyourpiemakerrequireadditionalcleaningofstubbornbuildupandstains,thefollowingcleaningmethodisrecommended:
Combine2tablespoonsofbicarbonateorbakingsodawithwatertomakeapaste.
TurnthepowerOFFandremovetheplug.Ensurethecookingplatesarecool.
Usingadampcloth,wipethemixtureonthecookingplates.Allowtostandfor1-2hours.
Usingadampcloth,gentlypolishoffthemixturetoremoveallresidue.
Beforeusingthepiemakeragain,re-seasonthenon-sticksurfacebyapplyingalittleoil,andwipingcleanwithpapertowel.
