Task 1

Task 2
In the actual exam, you will have to listen to an unfamiliar piece of music and answer listening
questions based on it. With this in mind, I would like you to look at the 2 images below. The first is
labelled a) and is the score to the beginning of We Are The Champions; the second is labelled b) and
contains the questions which you need to answer after listening to this extract three times.
Here is a link to the music for We Are The Champions. As instructed on the listening test, listen to it
from the beginning to 1 min 20 seconds THREE TIMES.
You can print the score and question sheet off if you wish or just write the answers out on your
computer or a sheet of paper.
Task 3
In the actual exam, you will also be asked to compare one of your set works with a piece of
unfamiliar music. With this is mind, follow the instructions below:
You will hear extracts from two vocal pieces; one familiar and one unfamiliar.
You may listen to the familiar extract, Killer Queen (0.00 – 0.52) by Queen, once.
You may listen to the unfamiliar extract, Seaside Rendezvous (0.00 – 1.19) also by Queen, three
times.
Evaluate the success of these two extracts in establishing mood and character.
Scores are provided below.
You should use your knowledge of musical elements, contexts and language in your response.
