Withincreasingpopulationpressure,overuseofthenaturalresourcesresultsinlowwatershedproductivityoftenunabletofeedthegrowingpopulation. Inthisregard,watershedbasedmarketorientedcommoditiesdevelopmenthasbeenlaunchedinTigrayRegiontoimproveproductivityandincomeofsmallholderfarmers. FogeradistricthasaplaintopographyandvastproductivegrazinglandthatisusuallyfloodedduringtherainyseasonbyoverflowsfromthelocalriversofGumaraandRib,andLakeTana. Thenaturalpasturewasusedtosupportlargenumberoflivestockduringthedryseason. Changesinforageutilization:SheepfatteningandapicultureinnovationuptakeinAtsbi Freeanduncontrolledgrazingresultedinseveredegradationofthegrazinglandanddisappearanceofpalatableforage 12000 50000speciesandemergenceofunpalatablenoxiousweedslikeHygrophillaauriculata(Amikela).
