Overview
The purpose of this guide is to assist customers and prospects in their hardware and software planning related to InterAction. This document outlines the supported 3rd party products that InterAction works with and the minimum system requirements for the InterAction product family.
The following diagram contains all of the major components of the InterAction 5.6 SP1 system relevant to planning your hardware and software requirements.

InterAction 3rd Party Certification
The InterAction 3rd Party Certification section outlines the 3rd party products and their versions that InterAction supports. Within each category, the supported 3rd party products are listed along with notes that may be important in your planning process.
InterAction is generally tested against the most current 3rd party service pack listed for each application. Where indicated we also support some earlier service packs.
If an older version of a 3rd party product is in use and you report a problem specific to InterAction it will be supported. If the problem is a result of the combination of the unsupported older version of a 3rd party product and InterAction, that particular problem will not be supported. If the problem is specific to a 3rd party service pack other than the most current service pack indicated, we may in some cases, require you upgrade to the more current 3rd party service pack.
For more detailed information on the system requirements and guidelines, please refer to the InterAction 5.6 SP1 System Resource Guidelines.

InterAction 5.6 SP1 Version Compatibility Matrix InterAction Support within Virtual Environments
LexisNexis InterAction Page 12 of 13
InterAction Support within Virtual Environments
InterAction is now tested within virtual environments utilizing VMware ESX Server. We have experienced no issues running InterAction in these virtual environments, and InterAction is now supported running within this virtual environment. Additionally, we will do our best to support customers running InterAction under other virtual environments. Please note that InterAction can require large amounts of system resources. Performance could suffer by running certain InterAction components in a virtual environment without appropriate resource allocation. Common weaknesses with virtual machines include access to the hard drive and network. These can both be mitigated to some degree with newer virtual server machines that have many SCSI hard drives and multiple network adapters. It is recommended that each InterAction Application Server and Process Manager in a production environment have at least one dedicated network adapter. Further, it is recommended that the InterAction Database Server not be virtualized in a production environment as it typically is very heavy on both hard disk and network utilization. Regardless of environment, if you were to experience problems – whether functional or performance related – running any combination of InterAction components in a virtual environment, we may require that you install the related components on non-virtualized systems to further diagnose the issue. While we do have significant experience with VMware and other virtual environments, we are not equipped to support the virtual environments themselves. If the problem is determined to exist only when running in the virtual environment, we may require you to engage your virtual environment vendor to determine if a solution is available. In all cases, refer to the appropriate InterAction System Resource Guidelines document. Resources allocated to each virtual machine running an InterAction component must meet or exceed the requirements defined for that same component running in a non-virtualized environment.
InterAction 5.6 SP1 Version Compatibility Matrix InterAction Applications Backward Compatibility
LexisNexis InterAction Page 13 of 13
InterAction Applications Backward Compatibility
In order to upgrade to InterAction 5.6 SP1, all server and back-office components must be upgraded (Database, Application Server, Administrator, Application Collaboration, etc.). However you can run your InterAction 5.5x Desktop Applications (Windows Client and PIM Integration) against an InterAction 5.6 SP1 database. IMPORTANT: There are a few exceptions to this related to reporting, Data Change Management, Web profiles (with atVantage or News & Business links only), SQL Server 2005, Microsoft Office 2007, Microsoft Vista, and Internet Explorer 7.0. Reporting Any reports (except Microsoft Reporting Services) created or edited on an InterAction 5.6 SP1 Windows Client workstation are not accessible from an InterAction 5.5x Windows Client workstation. This also applies to report definitions exported from an InterAction 5.6 SP1 Windows Client workstation and imported into an InterAction 5.5x Windows Client workstation. Therefore, you should follow one of the following best practices:
• Upgrade all of your desktops to 5.6 SP1 immediately, or • Do not upgrade any workstations that are creating or editing reports until all other desktops are
upgraded. Data Change Management Due to the extensive improvements made to the Data Change Management area, users are not able to access the Data Change Management Inbox from an InterAction 5.5x Windows Client workstation. All data stewards must upgrade their Windows Client workstations to InterAction 5.6 SP1. Web Profiles This only applies if you are using atVantage or the News & Business feature. Users cannot add atVantage or News & Business links in a Web profile using an InterAction 5.5x Windows Client workstation running against an InterAction 5.6 SP1 database. They are automatically deleted. Users must upgrade their Windows Client machine to InterAction 5.6 SP1 to perform this task. SQL Server 2005 InterAction 5.5 GA Users Only: If you are upgrading to SQL Server 2005, upgrade all of your Desktop Application workstations to InterAction 5.6 SP1. IMPORTANT: InterAction 5.5 GA cannot upgrade from InterAction 5.5 GA to 5.6 SP1 in a SQL Server 2005 environment. SQL Server 2005 is only supported with InterAction 5.5 SP1 or higher. Microsoft Office 2007 and Microsoft Windows Vista If you are planning to upgrade your workstations to Office 2007 or Vista, you must be running InterAction 5.5 SP3 or you must do this after you have upgraded to InterAction 5.6 SP1. You cannot upgrade from a version of InterAction earlier than 5.5 SP3 in a Microsoft Office 2007 or Vista environment. These are only supported with InterAction 5.5 SP3 or later. Internet Explorer 7.0 InterAction 5.5/5.5 SP1 Users Only: If you upgrade a workstation to Internet Explorer 7.0, you must upgrade the Desktop Applications on that workstation to InterAction 5.6 SP1. IE 7.0 is only supported with InterAction 5.5 SP2 or higher.
