INTERNATIONAL WEEK 2020 “TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY: TRENDS AND CHALLENGES”

It is our pleasure to invite you to the International Week 2020 hosted by the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality
Management, University of Rijeka which will take place from 4th to 8th May 2020 in Opatija, Croatia. This event aims
to bring together students, teaching and training staff from our faculty and partner institutions in order to strengthen
international networks and exchange ideas. It will enhance international collaboration providing the participants an
opportunity to meet and present their research within any topic related to economy, business and tourism.
We are using this opportunity to invite all the participants to the 25th Biennial International Congress “TOURISM AND
HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY: TRENDS AND CHALLENGES” hosted by the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management,
University of Rijeka which will be held in the city of Opatija from 4th to 6th May 2020. Since tourism and hospitality
industry cross over and take part in multiple areas and disciplines, authors are welcome to submit a paper from a
diverse range of topics, perspectives and disciplines. The range of research submissions may include conceptual,
empirical, experimental and case studies. Abstract submission deadline is 15th January 2020. For more information,

PARTICIPANTS: The participants of the International week are researchers and academic staff of business, economics
and tourism subjects from our partner universities. The International week is also opened to non-academic staff such
as administrative staff and coordinators, which will have the possibility to participate in different activities and
exchange their practice with colleagues. Maximum number of participants is 25. The priority will be given to authors
participating at THI2020 Congress.
The participation in the event can be realized within:
Erasmus+ Programme (teaching staff exchange from partner universities, training staff exchange from partner
and non-partner universities with the Erasmus University Charter) CEEPUS: "Central European Exchange Program for University Studies" Programme (teaching staff and Ph.d.
student exchange from partner and non-partner universities from central European countries) - possibility for
applying for the grant (deadline: 20.1.2020; for more information please contact [email protected]) other mobility programmes (researchers, Ph.D. students, teaching and training staff from partner universities)
COST AND REGISTRATION: Participation is free of charge. Participants should only cover their travel and
accommodation costs. The registration is open until 3.02.2020. Application form is available here.
DESTINATION AND VENUE: The Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management is situated in the village of Ika about
ten minutes from the town of Opatija. Opatija – 13 km in the west of Rijeka, European capital of culture 2020, is
situated in the Kvarner bay, in a sheltered position at the foot of the mountain Učka. Opatija, a charming coastal town
with a rich history and culture, has many fantastic locations, impressive monuments, well-manicured parks and
magnificent villas that are waiting to be discovered. Enjoy discovering the enchanting town of Opatija with its
churches, villas and well-tended parks. Visit the Croatian Walk of Fame and the small harbour known locally as Portić,
and take a picture with the famous statue of the Girl with the Seagull.
