EXAMPLES OF PROJECT PROPOSALS for cooperation
Composites Manufacturing in view of "Composite Revolution 4.0."
• Isn’t a “coming trend” or theoretical concept.
• It’s here, it’s real and is already having an impact in factories around the globe.
• Industry 4.0 is trending in the composites industry, but more so in Europe, particularly in plants that supply the aerospace and automotive industry.
• The wide range and potential combinations of fibers and thermoset and thermoplastic raw materials; multiple tools and molds; energy‐intensive autoclaves and ovens; and the extensive documentation requirements in some sectors complicate every aspect of design and manufacture. “But that means the composites industry has more to gain from smart manufacturing deployment than many other ‘simpler’ industries.”1
• 1 Brosius, D., Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation (IACMI, Knoxville, TN, US),
Sensors can measure angles, position, dimensions, temperatures, pressures, impedance, light, electrical resistance — almost any physical state of a material,…
We can verify immediately the fiber orientations of every ply laid by a machine, we can know the exact state of cure within a mold, we can know if the process is drifting.
The software in the system makes the appropriate adjustment(s) to the process inserting a missing tow before the next ply is laid up, changing the mold temperature, the injection rate, the catalyst ratio, mold pressure, vacuum level or some other parameter — without
human.
Factory of the future – path to make composites the most competitive materials of the next generation.
