Dear player and the player’s Club Coach
You have been identified to be part of the first ever Judo Queensland Junior Development Squad. The purpose of the squad is to help player get better at competition judo and assist in their judo career pathway.
Your invitation stems from your participation in 2019 as indicated by the JQ performance tracking system (attached below). Congratulations!
The program is new and we expect to start modestly and build its impact over time.
The Judo Queensland Board, State Teams Sub Committee, State Coaches and state team personnel are excited to be committing to this challenge and hope you can respond to it positively. Please read the details and if you are happy then respond to the invitation as per directions below.

Performance discussions between national, state coaches, your club coach and you
The coordinated group of state coaches assisting you and your club coach to meet your training and competition goals
Introductions to places to train overseas if applicable / Possible chaperoned tours
Subsidised and priority access to JQ development training camps
Financial assistance subject to fundraising and sponsorship to be obtained

What is JQ trying to achieve through the Development and JP Squads?
Greater recognition and support for talented and dedicated players
Fostering and retaining talent in the sport through visible and achievable pathways
Higher level of achievement for competition players, particularly assisting Queensland players be selected for national teams
Players training year‐round in periodised programs with sports science input
Generate participation information with published performance tracking tables
Consistent participation in JQ competitions
Raise the standard of the state team through its’ squads
Equitable access for regional and remote players by allowing entry to the nationals after meeting the minimum selection standards, even if not in a state squad.
Squad eligibility criteria:
1. Players will qualify in the following levels and the benefits will vary according to the level. 2. Squad membership will be reviewed every 6 months. Players not meeting/maintaining the
standards will not be re‐invited to continue in the next 6 months. 3. Tracking points may be used to support the eligibility criteria in future assessment periods after data
collection commences in 2019 4. The State Team Coaches / Selectors may decide the JD squads would benefit from inclusion of fit,
retired international players, or foreign nationals etc who have previously met the standards. 5. Refer to the 2019 Judo Qld State Team Selection Criteria
6. Junior Development Squad
a. Players winning a medal in the State Championships or QIO or an Australian Open or placing 5th or higher at the Nationals Championships.
b. Must have competed in either the Queensland International Open or State Championships and at least 3 Judo Queensland regional competitions
c. Have performed well at JQ squad training and JQ camps d. Remain fit and progressing toward higher competitive level e. Or equivalent as voted by State Coaches/Selectors on reasonable grounds
As a condition of squad membership players agree to:
1. Be available to participate in significant Queensland events as a player 2. Importantly, do 80% of state squad training in your region or do the equivalent training agreed
with the state coach assigned to you if you can’t travel to all of the squad trainings. 3. Have an individual performance plan agreed by 1) you (with your parent of under 18 years) 2)
your club coach and 3) your state coach. The point is the support team knows what you are trying to achieve so they can assist. Confidential information is not required.
4. To do fitness testing as required and arranged by state coaches 5. Uphold the JQ and JA codes of conduct and model high performance behaviour which includes
competing at local competitions to practice to your competitive routines.
