IOSH Qatar Branch Age Survey
As part of the Enhance strand of the new IOSH strategy, we’re undertaking some
research into how young members engage with IOSH. As part of this research, we’d
like to get a snapshot from our IOSH Qatar Branch to find out the age demographics of
members attending branch meetings.
IOSH latest news
Work-related fatalities total 2.78 million a year, according to new estimates from
the International Labour Organization (ILO) and other bodies.
The global total for fatal occupational accidents and work-related illness is 19%
higher than the 2.33 million estimated in 2014, reflecting the inclusion of
respiratory cases caused by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
(COPD) and work-related asthma, which were missing from the 2014 report.
Work diseases account for 2.4 million (86.3%) of the total estimated deaths in
the latest report, which was compiled by the Ministry of Health and Social in
Finland and the Workplace Safety and Health Institute (WSH) in Singapore
with the support of the ILO.

IOSH latest news on ISO 45001
Positive ballot will see new standard launched within months
Progress on ISO 45001 was made in Malaysia as a gathering of safety and
health specialists, including IOSH's Richard Jones (Head of Policy and Public
Affairs), with lots of issues resolved, so ISO 45001 should be available later this
year or early next, together with BS 45002, the new implementation guidance
currently being developed by BSI.
Five things to prepare you for ISO 45001
Source: IOSH news 02 October 2017
1. Secure ‘top management’ commitment to ISO 45001 and
their involvement in actively leading on it.
2. Review your current OSH arrangements against the ISO
45001 requirements to identify any gaps.
3. Develop an implementation and resources plan to close
the identified gaps.
4. Ensure effective mechanisms for change management
and worker consultation and participation.
5. Take steps to address any OSH competence and
resource needs across the organization.
