The situation in Mosul remains fluid with conflicting information emerging from different sources. While schools are functioning, exams have been postponed indefinitely. Hospitals are reportedly open and functioning with dwindling supplies. According to reports, schools and hospitals in Tikrit and Dor (Salahadin) remain largely closed and there is a shortage of medical staff. Continuing violence has triggered displacement from Jalawla’ and Sa’diya (Diyala).
Reports suggest that violence in Tikrit has triggered displacement of up to 1,200 families. Of these, 200 families have reportedly arrived in Qoratoo sub-district near Khanaqeen (Sulaymania) and arrivals from Diyala are continuous. UNICEF working to finalize rapid assessments of these fast moving populations in order to ensure provision of water, sanitation and health interventions.

S I T R E PIRAQ IDP CRISIS 6
UN Agencies have agreed to review cluster planning figures set out in the Strategic Response Plan (SRP).
UNICEF is supplying the KRG DoH with two 27 square meter tents for immunization activities and to serve as a health clinic. UNICEF also initiated establishement of fully equipped baby hut units, which will provide growth monitoring services and breast-feeding councelling. In Erbil city, the main hospital, and particularly the maternity ward, is overburdened by the influx of IDPs. UNICEF is supplying materials and supplies for an advanced primary health care unit set up (Malafandi Public Health Centre/PHC) to provide additional capacity. UNICEF will provide eight midwifery kits (sufficient for 400 deliveries), consisting of basic medical supplies for one delivery ward and or one maternity ward.
UNICEF responded to a request of the DoH in Dohuk and now supports five EPI teams (immunization) and five nutrition teams with human resources, transport logistics and supplies.
The Polio sub-national immunization days (NIDs) planned for 15-19 June started today in the KR-I, Baghdad and Anbar only. Campaigns in Ninewa, Kirkuk, Salahadeen and Diyala have been postponed. The depletion of fuel stocks across Central Iraq could reduce mobility of vaccination teams.
PROGRAMME UPDATE
HEALTH AND NUTRITION
Water supply in Mosul is reportedly normal and current stocks of chlorine are enough for one month. A new camp site has been identified in the KR-I and site planning started today. As of mid-day today, 1,058 persons have been registered and a daily increase of 250 people per day is anticipated. UNICEF has completed installation of thirteen water tanks, has distributed 200 Hygiene Kits, and is installing and additional ten and thirty showers. UNICEF and the KRG are jointly providing water-tankering. UNICEF provides solid waste-management in Kazir Camp and the KRG is responsible for waste disposal. A new camp will be operational in three weeks and Kazir camp will be closed. In cooperation with IOM, UNICEF supplies have reached Khalacki in the Mosul/Erbil area (15 kms from Shekhan). These supplies benefited 250 families (1,500 people, mostly children) and included 12,000 bottles of water, 250 hygiene kits and 1000 water jerrycans.
WASH
UNICEF responded to a request from the MoDM to support 1000 displaced families from Shahraban and Sa’diya in Diyala and who are displaced to Kalar. The training of 60 teachers in schools that host IDP children from Anbar started today. This training will include guidance on the provision of psycho-social support. Another 100 teachers were already trained during May, 2014. Catch up classes continue in Al-Qaim, Ana, Rawa and four schools opened today in Heet, Al-Baghdadi, Haditha and Khaldiya.
EDUCATION
The existing Child Helpline will be expanded to provide 24/7 support to children in need. Information on the availability of services offered will be disseminated through various forms of communication to increase awareness among children. Based on a request from the Directorate of Social Affairs in Erbil, UNICEF agreed to create more child friendly spaces in IDP hosting areas, prioritizing Khazar camp. UNICEF provided IDP children in Kalacki near Sheikhan with 50 handballs and 250 jump ropes.
