Cricket Gala Day
It's been a big term of cricket at our school! All K-2 students have participated in the Cricket NSW 'Mascot Challenge', which saw all students working on developing their fundamental movement skills. In particular, all K-2 classes spent 10 minutes each day refining their catching and throwing skills to give them better skills for engaging in sport in the future. All students in Years 3-6 participated in a 4 week Cricket NSW skills program at school, as well as participating in an in-school gala day. Students (and teachers!) improved their understanding of the rules and strategies in cricket. This made it possible for over 60 students from Years 3-6 to represent Lawson PS at a Cricket NSW T20 Gala Day. It was a very cold, but very fun day and a big thank you is due to Miss Poulton for making all of these events possible!
Coles Sports for Schools vouchers
The Lawson PS community has supported our school with an enthusiastic response to the Coles Sports for Schools voucher program! This has enabled the school to purchase hundreds of dollars’ worth of sporting equipment to fill in some gaps in our resourcing for our K-6 PDHPE and Sports programs including; volleyballs, agility ladders, bottle cages, markers and storage equipment. Thank you everyone for your support! A big thank you is also due to our very responsible Sports House Captains, who have helped with organising sports equipment for K-2 and 3-6 Sport each week, keeping the sports resources tidy, and helping to 'test' our new Coles Sports for Schools equipment! Great work!
Zone Athletics
The Blue Mountains PSSA Zone Athletics Carnival was held at Blacktown International Sports Centre, with over 30 students from Lawson qualifying at our school's Athletics Carnival to compete. The team from Lawson enjoyed a great day out, competing against many talented students from across the Blue Mountains schools. Congratulations to all of our students for their hard work and positive spirit on the day!
Regional Athletics
Congratulations is also due to three students who came first in events at the BMPSSA Zone Athletics Carnival and qualified to compete at the Sydney West Regional Athletics Carnival! We are very proud of Lotima Tohifolau (Junior Boys High Jump), Natalie Nash (Senior Girls Discus and Senior Girls Long Jump) and Tate Rees (Senior Boys 800m). Well done!
Term 3 Winning House
The winning sports house for Term 3 is Kedumba! To reward their excellent work this term, the winning house reward afternoon will be on Thursday after lunch for all Kedumba students K-6. Congratulations Kedumba!
Term 4 Gymnastics – Auskick (after school) – Swim School
Next term we are set to have some exciting opportunities in PE and Sports, with all students developing new skills in their weekly Sports program. There will also be an AFL Auskick program running after school, one afternoon a week for 4 weeks (details to come) and students in Years 3-6 will be participating in a gymnastics program during PE. Swim School will also be running in Weeks 7 & 8 of next term and details about registering for this will be provided early in Term 4.
Finally, a big thank you is due to the Lawson parents and community for their support in encouraging all students to be able to get involved in a wide range of sports and to live active, healthy lives. Also, a big "thank you!" is due to the mums and dads who have helped out to make these events possible this year.
