An event was organised jointly by Trivandrum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TCCI) and Trivandrum Agenda Task Force on 04.09.2019

1. Silver Line: Ocial Announcement

2. SILVER LINE GETS CABINET NODThe Cabinet meeting of Kerala State

Ministers held on the 7th of August 2019

gave the ocial clearance for

implementation of Silver Line project by

the Kerala Rail Development Corporation

Limited (K-Rail). According to Shri. V Ajith

Kumar, MD, K-Rail, the double line stretch

spanning 532 Km will reduce the railway

trac congestion in the state, which is

now operating at 115% capacity.

3. LiDAR Survey Gets ApprovalThe LiDAR (Light Detection and

Ranging) Survey is an aerial

remote-sensing survey method that

will help study the 532 Km stretch

semi-high-speed railway line,

extending from Kochuveli to

Kasaragod. The on-field survey will be

carried out by the Hyderabad-based

agency GeoKno.

The LiDAR method makes use of light

in the form of a pulsed laser to

measure ranges/variable distances to

the Earth. These light pulses,

combined with other data recorded by the system, will generate high-precision

three-dimensional information about the shape of the Earth in that area and also

the surface/geographical characteristics, which helps in planning, designing and

implementing the project.

4. The Metro ConnectKeeping in mind the increasing number of passengers travelling from Kochi to

dierent parts of Kerala, the Semi High Speed Rail (SHSR) will have an integrated

station in the second phase of Kochi Metro, near Infopark at Kakkanad.

Shri. Tom Jose IAS, Chief Secretary – Government of Kerala, announced the same at

a presentation on Silver Line, organized by K-Rail and Better Kochi Response Group

(BKRG) on the 26th of October 2019.

5. Silver Line Gets Massive Support from Traders’ and Merchants’ Union

K-Rail Managing Director Shri. V. Ajith Kumar speaks at a session organized by the Malabar Chamber of Commerce in Kozhikode on the 02.11.2019

trac in Kerala”, said K-Rail

Managing Director Shri. V

Ajith Kumar, while speaking

at the event.

6. TRAFFIC SURVEY CONDUCTED SUCCESSFULLYThe Trac & Transportation survey

for Silver Line was carried out

successfully in September and

October 2019, at the identified

locations. The main objective of the

survey was to assess the existing

trac and transportation

characteristics of the commuters

between Thiruvananthapuram and

Kasaragod. All modes of transport

on this stretch were covered under

the study.

7. Soil Investigation Survey UnderwayThe Soil Investigation (Geotechnical

Investigation) survey commenced on the

27th of August 2019 and is in progress. The

purpose of this investigation is to provide all

necessary inputs for designing the civil

engineering structures for the project.

At K-Rail, we are thrilled about the

journey that we have embarked on.

A foresighted project that will take

intra-state rail transportation to the

next level, Silver Line aims to make

fast, comfortable, safe and

world-class travel accessible to the

common man at an aordable cost,

while ensuring minimal land

acquisition and synergized

development of cities across

Kerala. We will, through project

Silver Line, strive to accelerate

Kerala’s infrastructure, economic

and social development.

As you are aware, Silver Line is

a 100% green initiative that will

help reduce the State’s carbon

footprints significantly. As of

now, the initial/ preparatory

work of the LiDAR has been

successfully completed. Both

MOD and DGCA have granted

clearance for flying for this

aerial survey. Processes

including Soil Investigation,

Environmental Impact

Assessment (EIA) and Social

Impact Assessment (SIA) are

currently underway. The trac

survey has been completed and

the results are expected by

January 2020. Once

operational, Silver Line will oer

next-generation intra-state rail

travel experience to millions

with its fast, convenient and

passenger-friendly services; and

K-Rail is proud and honoured to

make this dream project a

reality for the people of Kerala.

SOON, KERALA WILLCHANGE THE WAY IT TRAVELSSilver Line: Semi High Speed Rail Corridor “Silver Line”, K-Rail's Semi High Speed Rail project, will connect the North and

South regions of the State with train services that will operate at a maximum speed of

200 km/hour, reducing the total travel time to less than 4 hours. Silver Line will redefine

intra-state travel in Kerala with its high quality, time-saving services and provide ecient

last mile connectivity through aggregate and feeder services. This will ensure maximum

passenger convenience and encourage more and more people to use public transport.
