HartsellservedasanEnlistedMarineintheReservesfrom1981-83,andthenwascommissionedasanofficerservingonActiveDutyfrom1983-1994.HethentransitionedtotheReserveswherehewasmobilizedforthefollowingOperations;IraqiFreedomI-2003,IraqiFreedomII-2004,andEnduringFreedominAfghanistan–2009-10.

AsaGeneralOfficerheservedastheDeputyCommandingGeneral(Mobilization)IMarineExpeditionaryForceand1stMarineBrigade,astheCommandingGeneralofthe4thMarineDivision,andastheMobilizationAssistanttotheCommanderoftheUnitedStatesPacificCommand(USPACOM)whereheservedastheJ5StrategicPlans&Policy,theChiefofStaff,andastheDirectoroftheAsiaPacificCenterforSecurityStudies.

Thegeneral’sawardsanddecorationsincludetheDefenseSuperiorServiceMedal,LegionofMerit,BronzeStarandCombatActionRibbonsforcombatinbothIraqandAfghanistan.HeisalsoaMarineCorpsDistinguishedPistolShooter.

GeneralHartsell's22-yearciviliancareerintheHealthcareIndustryincludedservinginMarketing,ProductManagement,U.S.andGlobalBusinessDevelopment,HospitalAdministrationandHealthcareLeadership.UponretirementfromtheMarineCorps,hemovedbacktohishomestateofFloridaandjoinedthePascoSheriff’sOffice,wherehestooduptheFutureOperationsDivision,priortobecomingFDVADeputyExecutiveDirector.
