GVI.2013.6

With these five new elephants, five mahouts have the chance to work in their communities and see their families every day. With the increase of elephant numbers also increase the number of volunteers, whichmeans that more families in the village have the chance to have home stays for the volunteers, creatingsustainable alternative livelihoods for the community.

Singtoh, GVI local staff and lead mahout always thanks the volunteers for coming and seeing the elephants inthe forest, and he also adds to his thanks “I like seeing the elephants in the forest, because when they are inthe forest, they are happy.” Passionate individuals like Singtoh make a great contribution to animal welfareprojects around the world. Their knowledge and enthusiasm can be transmitted among community membersand beyond, in order to improve the welfare of domesticated wildlife around Thailand and the world.
