5) International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking
(June 26, 2019)
The international day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking is a United
Nations International Day against drug abuse and the illegal drug trade. It is
observed annually on 26 June, since 1989.
‘Health for Justice. Justice for Health’, the theme for this year highlights
that “justice and health are two sides of the same coin when it comes to
addressing drug problems”. The aim to observe this day is to increase support
for prevention of the production of drugs and its use and is thus a decisive
investment for the well-being of students and youth, their relatives and their
communities.
The event was well organised by the science club of the school. A very
informative speech highlighting the measures to be taken to counter drug
abuse among the students was delivered by Kum. Athira Vinod of cl.IX A. The
speech was followed by an oath taking. Kum. Nandaja A of cl .IX A took lead to
deliver the oath and it was repeated by the entire students. All the four houses
have displayed posters on their respective notice boards.
The event was really good enough to create awareness among
students and teachers alike regarding the drug hazard. It would really help
them to be more vigilant and pro-active to fight against this menace.
